Bad news: my laptop's back to overheating if I let it run YS without heavy power restrictions. Videos from me are probably gonna be on hold until I can replace this stupid thing, so I'm afraid someone else is gonna have to record Air Fest this time around.

I've been having trouble with my router resetting this morning, and then it went dark and didn't come back on. I think the problem was the power cord, so I swapped it out and I'm hoping that fixes it.

Hopefully that does the trick for you.

Apparently my boot drive is in MBR mode so I can't turn on Secure Boot, which may or may not matter if Windows 11 doesn't support first generation Ryzen or if they loosen requirements to not need Secure Boot. What a confusing time to be alive.
  • MD5Ray01Wed Jul 07, 2021 3:26 pm
Secure Boot is one of the reasons why my PC is unable to run Windows 11.
  • SwiftWed Jul 07, 2021 8:07 pm
I'm not even gonna bother forking out money for a TPM enabled mobo, so I just skinned my install to look like it and called it a day
  • NeoconWed Jul 07, 2021 11:39 pm
My B350 board has TPM and Secure Boot. I could use software to switch my boot drive from MBR to GPT, reformat the boot drive and reinstall Windows if I felt like it. By 2025 I'm hoping I will have a newer system and not have to worry about it. Actually, I set up my new drive as GPT, so I could just move my Steam library back to my 1TB drive, use Samsung's software to clone my boot drive to the new drive, and pretend none of this ever happened.

Of course, that is assuming MS actually expands their list of supported CPUs to include older ones. I'm thinking in the end, they will allow every computer running Windows 10 to update to 11 and their "requirements" will end up being "recommendations".
  • SwiftThu Jul 08, 2021 4:07 am
Honestly, 2025 seems like a good time in general to switch to 11. Gives it a few years to iron out the kinks much like 10
  • NeoconThu Jul 08, 2021 4:23 am
It seems like Windows 11 is just a reskin of Windows 10. Do many Windows userd really care about the "animation" of windows movements on the screen or rounded edges? I don't know. I bet this fall, all of us who run Windows 10 will get an automatic update to 11 anyway.
  • SwiftThu Jul 08, 2021 4:50 am
Honestly, that's about what it boils down to. 11 could've simply been another big update to 10 but it's also possible there's a lot under the hood that durrsoft haven't talked about. Hopefully they don't auto update Win10 users though, given their track record.
  • SwiftThu Jul 08, 2021 4:52 am
Personally I hope they manage 11 better than 10. Would love to have an OS that doesn't have me paranoid about whether a tiny ass update is gonna brick my system because someone on the dev team did an oopsie

Since I changed the battery on my UPS, my computer has not stayed on in power outages, even though everything else plugged into it does stay on. It also only shows that it is using 30 watts even when I've got a game running that should be over 150-200 watts. I have gone through the settings several times and not found the problem. My mother asked me this morning, "Are you sure it is plugged in?" Of course I'm sure it's plugged....oops.

Just picked up “Boyd”, by Robert Coram. Should be a good read but I have 3 other books to get through first. Nuts!
