Re: What-if: Rare and Unusual Aircraft Pics

I've only just stumbled upon this one:

Image

The Convair XP-92 ramjet fighter from 1946. Found it on THIS page, which contains a maddening number of flickering images...

Just to give you an idea of how many variants have been tried & rejected. Of course there may be a few more by next week. The trouble with a fictitious design is it is never finished.

As a futuristic plane, it also makes sense to do a UAV option.

Mudskipper Evolution Part 3

http://i.minus.com/ibixzPbngKfNmX.png Mudskipper Evolution Part 3 by grigor The Mudskipper continues to evolve. I've reconfigured it for fluidic thrust vectoring. This feels right. Simpler, lighter, better low-speed handling. Unlike previous planes the TVC is just to steer it, not to make it super-...

Mudskipper Evolution Part 2

http://i.minus.com/j1OThunnopqKG.png Mudskipper Evolution Part 2 by grigor Since last week I've figured it doesn't really need canards if it's got that tailplane. Then I'm thinking the wings should be a little wider to generate the required lift, since this thing flies Low and Slow. Moved the guns ...

Re: What-if: Rare and Unusual Aircraft Pics

...Ah, the X-planes. Those were heady days... men in checked shirts with crew-cuts and slide rules, pushing the frontiers above and beyond Edwards and such places. The Right Stuff. I just found a picture of Yeager with the X-3: http://www.chuckyeager.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/X3.jpg He kind of ...

Re: What-if: Rare and Unusual Aircraft Pics

I'm just going to keep throwing 'em at ya. Anyone heard of Burt Rutan's weird asymmetrical ground attack plane? http://airpigz.com/storage/2012-january/Rutan-Scaled-ARES-In-Flight-2011.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1325509671465 http://airpigz.com/storage/2012-january/Rutan-Scaled-ARES-On-Ground-20...

Re: What-if: Rare and Unusual Aircraft Pics

I haven't yet looked into the "recumbent" position, like on a banana lounge - the F-16 has the pilot laid back by 30 degrees, which allows for higher-G's, so why not go back further? Like a banana lounge position, or lower. With the right cockpit layout vision would still be half-decent. Meanwhile, ...

Re: What-if: Rare and Unusual Aircraft Pics

Thanks for the responses, guys. The E.555 most certainly did not disappoint. Here's another one I'd never heard of 'til recently, in a similar vein to some ideas I've been pursuing - small, simple, and well armed. Like a shrunken A-10... http://up-ship.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/midget2.jpg...

What-if: Rare and Unusual Aircraft Pics

I am, and have always been, a fan of the unusual. I get a real kick out of stumbling upon images of planes that I'd never seen, never heard of before. Those what-ifs, the concept drawings, the prototypes and mock-ups of planes that didn't quite make the big time. I hope this topic provides some thri...

Re: Varren's Workshop

Just a suggestion... instead of pure white /pure blue, try damping the colours back with some grey. Maybe make the white more a 190 190 190 (RGB colour) and the blue 47 103 159... Still bright, but not unrealistically so. What seems like a dull colour in the working stages (in Blender or wherever) l...

Re: Air *.lst Activator

This program and the Dogfight Generator are now on the YSFHQ Home Page under "Miscellaneous"

I tried uploading an .exe or .zip to Minus the other day and it wouldn't let me. Switching to YS Upload instead.

Re: YS fantasy wishlist

I've always wanted to be able to do some flying, land, exit the program, then return to the game in the place I landed rather than back at the very beginning - or even to exit the game in mid-flight and return next day (or next week) to that same point in the air. Also to avoid reloading any aircraf...

MAG-1 Mudskipper (with DNM Instant Repaint) Category: Aircraft http://i.minus.com/jscsXMHEtbI7g.png This is another fictional aircraft - the latest in the evolutionary line of "low and slow", rather than "high and fast". Replace & Rename Utility

This one is really simple, and I've found it extremely useful. This program is for situations arising from things like python script output. I've always found it tedious and time-consuming to rename or delete your old file, then rename the new file to the name of the first. Say you have a file calle...
