Re: YS Scenery help

@ Navy I've had Editor crash on me a few times, but mainly when I was doing a lot of clicking when it got slow. I'm also running an XP emulator on my mac, so that could be a cause. I don't know what system you're running, but that might be a cause if you're on a slower computer. @ Waspe You're right...

Re: YS Scenery help

@ Patrick
Cool thanks mate. I didn't see that option.

@ waspe
So when you say place it at 0 altitude and move it up, you mean make the view point w/ coordinates (x1,0,z1)(x2,0,z2)(x3,0,z3)
and then use edit->move to make it rise to an altitude y?

Ys scene 7

When making the island slightly above water, would it be possible to burry the elevation grid below the surface, so that you could have it extend beyond the island and only pop up over land? I've had some trouble with making a view point above the surface of the .fld. I'll input 3 coordinates for th...

Re: YS Scenery help

@ NavyGator When you say that you can change one elevation, do you mean that you can raise one node/face? or that you can raise the entire grid by a certain distance? As for making a flat plateau, take a look in the help directory of YS Scenery Editor. That's how I learned how to make elevation grid...

Re: YS Scenery help

Wouldn't that only work if you had the airport at the center (0,0,0) of the coordinate system of the second .fld?

If you moved the airport 7km to the east, wouldn't you have to re-calculate the starting positions based off of where the airport was imported to?

Re: YS Scenery help

Thanks for the info Waspe.

My Airport is really coming along with everyone's help. I really appreciate it.
Give me a month or so and I should have enough elements to post my first map. Undoubtably I'll have lots more questions...

Re: YS Scenery help

Okay, I think that my problem with the disappearing thick lines was that I wasn't in the child scenery with my taxiway. I made a new .fld to test things out and both the thick lines and the runway lights stayed when I had the pink box of the taxiway polygon selected.

Thanks for the instructions. I was having a bit of difficulty getting the lines to work. I take another crack at it after classes tomorrow.

Re: Hello Everyone!

It'd be a real loss to the YSF community if we lost all the resources there. Thanks for the cashed tip. I'll have a little easier time getting at the older links that are posted here.

Re: Hello Everyone!

Thanks.

Is the cashed site posted somewhere? Whenever i click on a google link to the old site, it redirects to the new site with practically nothing there. I was hoping that all the good links and tutorials wouldn't be lost.

Re: Hello Everyone!

I didn't see that. Thanks for the heads up.
EDIT:
Was that on YSPilots? I didn't see it when I did a quick google search, but the first hit was from YSP.

Re: YS Scenery help

Thanks for all your help mate.

I've been having a little trouble with getting the lines to work, they keep jumping. When I create multiple lines, do I really have to clear the interface for every new line? That's a lot of lines!

Re: YS Scenery help

Thanks for the tip Waspe. I didn't realize how thin the line was until I zoomed in really far.

What would you recommend for a taxiway center line width? I was thinking of 1m or 1.5m.

Re: Hello Everyone!

I noticed the curve when I watched a few of Kuro's blender tutorials and I really don't have time for that with school and all. Making maps takes a little less time due to the written tutorials out there. Granted there's still TONS to learn through trial and error, but It's a little less time intens...

Re: YS Scenery help

@ Philster
@ Waspe
That was the problem. I threw all the imported scenery into the background and now I can put numbers on the runway. :D
I imported the runways at the very beginning of the precess using file->import->scenery and used the stock maps.

Re: YS Scenery help

Thanks Waspe. I stupidly didn't see the angle box. I've just run into another problem, where after I defined the spot, text, and angle and then press space, the text i inputed does not appear when I place it on top of an imported default runway. I know the picture above shows a white letter, ...

Re: Hello Everyone!

@ Shutter Thanks for the tip. I'm not working on making planes right now, but when I do, I'll give it a try. Right now I'm building some airports to use in some original maps. TF58 was right that you shouldn't post your first map...mine sucked. Looking back I can't believe how awful it looks compare...
