ROKAF decide to introduce A330MRTT Tanker

MRTT buddies! The RAAF has also just decided to order another 2 tankers - @Spektrum; they have a boom and 2 drogue pods on the wings. The MRTT has had some serious issues in the past, but they've recently completed the relevant fixes, with the tankers performing well in assisting the fight against I...

[PROGRAM] OpenYS - Open Source YSFlight Server!

I know you're working on a fair bit (and this would probably come under your existing WIP), but any chance of having a trainer / plugin that reads extra / custom weapon data from an aircraft's .dat (stored within some commented-out section)? But yeah, this obviously opens up a ton of oppor...

[PROGRAM] OpenYS - Open Source YSFlight Server!

Exciting history was made today - I've mapped the "ordinance spawned" packet - the one that tells YS a missile, bomb, agm, or even flare is created. I can now launch bombs from the gun cannon for example (in fact I've already done so, it was HILARIOUS!). We need vidyas ASAP Is it possible...

Yep, always gotta be careful of the 1-sided double-polygons during the sketchup conversion process. I always just try to ensure that I paint my model in Sketchup before exporting it, allowing me to use the colour split script to get what I want off it; you can do the same thing in geopolyx, etc, but...

65K Landing Challenge

It all works now; I was missing Pat's ground pack in my current installation; to shorten the trip I just created a starting point out near the carrier. Landed a stock F-16 on it so far, just going to see if I can land a few other things on it before I post a video. Edit: Here we go; used the stock F...

65K Landing Challenge

Am I doing something wrong? I couldn't find it in an SR-71, so I jumped in an F/A-37 Talon with 75% fuel and cruised south from Lihue at Mach >4 until it ran out of fuel (~20 minutes later) and I still didn't find it, checking the 100 mile radar monitor every 10 seconds or so. I also tried to open t...

Overrun Tailstrike

There just needs to be roughness coefficient for maps and a landing gear suspension coefficient for aircraft that allows something between negligible vibration and flipping over aircraft. You could probably add a damage-per-distance factor (with an upper limit) into that as well, so if you're landin...

You guys should try to use gifv's:

They're roughly 10x smaller in filesize without loss in quality.

Nice article on A-10 developments

Why can't the Army or Marines buy the A-10's instead? If the Air Force is reluctant to do the job required of them, but instead focuses on the economics and profitability of war as a business, the A-10's could be taken over and take a seat next to the choppers and fixed-wings already in service. It...

Northrop Grumman - Aircraft TV Commercial

They are, but NGB isn't a thing anymore; LRS-B superseded it.

Also, Lockheed doesn't have that much of a stake in this; it's primarily Northrop Grumman vs Boeing.

Northrop Grumman - Aircraft TV Commercial

Briefing time! The aircraft vaguely advertised at the end of the commercial is meant to represent Northrop Grumman's entry for the Long Range Strike Bomber (LRS-B) program which seeks to develop a B-3 stealth bomber. Right now, Northrop Grumman is competing against a Boeing / Lockheed Martin team (B...

Yeah; easiest way to identify a HARM is with it's massive (especially when compared to the tail) forward fins (1.1m tip to tip).

The outwards cant is just an optical illusion; they're just simply tilted downwards which, when combined with the upwards elevation of the wing's middle hardpoint, makes it look like it's facing away from the camera more. As for the HARM; it's not pictured in that image, but it is slated for later a...

Advice on Jet

Looks awesome; what's it's estimated thrust? Also, make sure you develop a safety plan / operating procedure before you get to it's maiden run; it might help too to get clearance to run it in different areas, in case your neighbours complain about the noise, or your college workshops don't want to h...

Re: Indonesian Air Asia flight 8501 disappear

There's talk that there may have been an issue stemming from a frozen pitot tube - there are procedures to deal with such a thing, but it might have been the originating problem from which others arose.

Damn, 86%, but only because I second-guessed myself on the constant speed prop question.

Re: Elevation Grid Generator

Yeah, the reason I asked originally was because I got curious after seeing the 60x60 bitmaps and so I tried a bitmap with 500x500; I let it run for about 3-5 minutes and then decided it was either going to take a very long time or it might maybe have become frozen (memory usage was only climbing may...

Re: Elevation Grid Generator

This is great; how well does it run as the image sizes get larger; or rather, what's the largest bitmap you've tried it with?
