MaPS for Maps in YS Flight

Post by Turbofan » Wed Mar 02, 2016 4:07 am

Ok, so I normally have this document handy whenever I am making maps in the Scenery Editor. I have named it MaPS for Maps, which stands for Measurements and Preparation Standards for maps in YS Flight. Basically, it is a quick-reference guide in tabular form for map making. It includes distance conversions (mile to foot to meter, etc), runway specifications, runway lighting RGB values I normally use, distance between two runway lights, or taxiway lights, and the RGB colour values I use for each of those etc etc. I have also included a placement guide in the table for the ILS box and the PAPI lights. Plus specs for geographical areas like parks, rivers, beaches, "new" concrete, weathered concrete and so on. I could go on but I'll let you take a look and see if it interests you.

Note that most aspects of this aren't intended to be "technically accurate" (except for stuff like runway measurements, distances and such). If you spot something that doesn't "fit the bill", you don't have to refer to it. This is one of those "if you like it, keep it, if you don't, leave it" things.

My general rant: I will call them blended winglets, not Sharklets; There is no CEO, it's just simply put, an Airbus 319/320/321, or the 320NEO, 321NEO etc. I didn't land IN DAL, I landed AT DAL. On the other hand, I did land in Dallas.

^Thanks Aditya.

You are free to edit it as you wish on your end (of course) but I rather you post your own suggestions here (some RGB value you tried that worked better or something else you did/found out) instead of re-uploading the entire document. Everyone can see your suggestions and try them out. I do ask that the original document not be modified and re-uploaded.

I will, from time to time, edit the document and upload future versions in the first post.

Here are some usefull links
http://flightsimhq.org/ysflight/colours.html
http://flightsimhq.org/ysflight/scenery.html

As you know, colors can be changed inside scenery file.
But I also recommend you look inside "flight.cfg" file, placed in config folder. In this file you can see string:

Code: Select all

LIGHTSRCD 0.000000 0.866025 -0.500000
that used for sun (spot) position, where second number used as Z location, and when you switch it to negative clouds and other objects will look like sun under them!
