Post by Ruskiwaffle1991 »

Do I need Discord to join the event? Why do you guys use the 2012 version instead of 2015? (windows and mac)

First of all, you don't need to make another thread to ask this.

You'd better to join there because you can't hear any music or narration if you aren't in the discord.

2012 is more stable and has separated F6 and F9 view, F7 and F8 moves with mouse wheels and a lot differences.
Most airshow prefer 2012 more than 2015.

So I have to delete my very wunderbar add-on collection and YS?

Nope, just download and install the 2012 version to a different folder than the 2015 version. You'll get a few errors, but it'll run fine.

When you run the setup .exe, select a different filepath to install to than the default. You can get the various versions here

Hi Ruskie.

Yes, Discord is required if you plan on actually flying in the show. If you just plan on spectating, it's not required but you won't be able to hear the show audio and commentary!

As for why we use 2012 rather than 2015, it comes down to multiplayer stability. The 2012 edition has superior netcode for multiplayer formation flying which allows for a slight, but important, decrease in what we know as distance lag. Overall, it's just more reliable and works better for multiplayer formation flying.

If you would like me to personally walk you through the 2012 version setup, feel free to join the Discord(for free!) and send me a message on there.

Ruskie,

You may be able to install YSF2012 to another folder on your PC.

If you have all the addons in a newer version, then you could copy your Aircraft/User/Ground/Scenery folders from that version into the YSF2012 version folder (C:\Program Files\YSFLIGHT.COM\YSFlight\)

Newer addons will definitely throw errors, but if you spam the "Enter" button on launch the program will eventually load.

Last piece of advice: YSF Addons are all text based files, so are readable in a text editor. Have a look around, you might make sense of how some of it works.

Good luck.
I am an accountant working full-time (and some). I'm not here as often as I would like to be. Send a message if you need me. There are a few people in the community who can get in contact with me urgently if you need - don't be afraid to ask. I just don't check here as frequently as I used to. Sorry!
