Is there a world map?
Coming from "Flightgear" (as said in my introduction) I guess it is normal that I try to learn YFS while comparing it to FG.
One thing that still puzzles me is the apparent lack of a worldmap (that is, a world scenery).
How can I fly from airport A to airport B in YFS? I can't? If so, does someone know if a worlmap is in the works?
I remember that one of the things that 1st captured my attention in flight sims was the ability to fly anywhere in the world.
I also understand that YFS is developed by a single programmer and that maybe YFS's targets are a bit different from other sims.
I'm just asking because I can't seem to understand how a virtual airline company would operate since it (apparently) cannot make a flight from spot A to spot B.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Myself and VNAF are attempting to create maps to give a good overall sampling of scenery's to give a better feel of airline coverage from all areas of the world. But to this date flying the equator is just not

New Hawaii? Meaning a different Hawaii from the one that comes bundled with YFS?There are big maps that you can fly in 3 hours with a Cessna, like the new Hawaii...
Strange. As said, I'm not a programmer but I know the basic fundamentals of programming.Gunny wrote:Well there has been a number of world maps attempted in ys but none have come to completion due to the impracticality of it.Lag is the biggest culprit of the size and detail of maps here. The bigger the map the more lag interfering with flight performance of aircraft so we have tried to keep map size to a manageable size to balance size detail and lag.
I can't see the reason for a world map to be any "heavier" than the biggest map bundled with YFS. At least in single player mode.
Thinking loud, a map shouldn't be fully loaded into RAM. There's no point in doing so, since the player can't be everywhere at a given time.
FG, for instance, uses such an approach and I'm sure most games out there (not only sims) do just the same...
Besides, I wasn't looking for anything fancy.
I just wanted to have several airports in the same map, that's all

And since I have no knowledge of programing what so ever I would assume your assumptions are correct in that regard.
All the maps I mentioned are available here as downloads and many more half the fun is the hunting tally-ho.

If you actually tried to make a map, its not that easy as it sounds.Crazypilot wrote:Here is a solution take a picture of the world make an exact copy of that picture of the map then add all the major airports in the world and atleast one in every country only airports should be detailed and the area close to it .

Re: (SOLVED) Is there a world map?
A true 1:1 ratio world map is just way to big, and the current scenery drawing mechanism of YSFlight does not support it. The world shakes, is drawn incorrectly, and crashes, as were the words of H3csc whom tried this in the past.

Doesn't the Megadodo map/s do this? Serveral maps in the same map... If that makes sense?john3voltas wrote: ...
