Re: How long have YOU been in YSF?
Ever since June of 2006 (6.5 Years), but some veterans go WAY back.
Also, Evo, it's not always the best idea to bump old threads unless you have substantial information to provide. I think this is an okay case, but just so you know for other threads...

Yeah you did-back on page 2OfficerFlake wrote:Oh this is an old thread. Not sure if I posted in it...

This time you gave more information thoughOfficerFlake wrote:Since June of 2006. I joined YSP a bit later, getting in on the aerobatic side.

Now then, while this has popped up... might as well contribute. I discovered YSFS way back in '01 through an incessant desire to find a decent, freeware flight sim (and a Google search). I flew offline for a year or so. Then I discovered the YSTK Fan Site (yeah, I've been here for a while folks) and joined YSTK Global Lines, the pioneer of virtual airline flying in YS. Some of you old timers may remember Cruising (later on known as Jetliner on YS Pilots), Arnie (who was in charge of the "recreational" flying sub-forum) and of course Skyline, both of whom helped Cruising and me run the airline. Anyway, YSTK Global Lines later turned into YGL Corp. with me as COO and Jetliner as CEO and so on and so forth, the rest is history.

TF, you and Jetliner were great at running YGL. Really one of the truly "historic" parts of our YS community.Turbofan wrote: Now then, while this has popped up... might as well contribute. I already posted here as well, but more detail is probably in order:
I started playing YS back in 2006 after a friend recommended it to me. That friend only played it a couple of times and never came back, but first time I was online, I "met" Vapor and Darthmiina. They told me about YSPilots, which I joined that same night. I had already been involved in MSFS for a long time, and was in a couple of VA's there, so I was really excited about joining a forum and starting a VA for YS. I never got my own VA running, but started NAFC (North American Flight Command) with a user then known as Man-U (he's long gone now), which had about 15 pilots at it's peak, and YSATC (which spawned out of discussions about regulating the .dat files of squad aircraft -- no cheat planes, people!), and pretty much ran that until YSP collapsed and HQ started. Joined HQ a few weeks after it started (it was still a secret at the time, if I remember correctly), and the rest, as TF said, is history.

Re: How long have YOU been in YSF?
Speaking of warding off server nasties, I remember YSATC-you definitely introduced a great concept to YS which had been lacking in coherent form for a long time. Everything from flight logging to VA servers, good stuff!
And thanks for the comments on YGL, it was great fun to run that collection of VAs. Really though it was Jetliner who made running it fun, we collaborated on paint schemes and routes and pretty much everything else. And when you joined the Civilian section that made it even better.

Re: How long have YOU been in YSF?
There is a San Francisco map ! ?Turbofan wrote:^Vapor was also heavily into the combat side of things and he did make some good contributions (if memory serves it was him who made the San Francisco map-or partially helped out anyway), but helped me and Jetliner as well to ward off nasties on servers.
Really?
Does anybody know if any copies still exist?

And I remember being flamed by Raymond because I suggested a squadron idea not even a week into my membership, lol.
Then somehow I became an admin and terrorized all and sundry for years to come.
And now I'm a "Newbie"...haha!

As for YSHQ, I have only started a couple of minutes ago, though I've been lurking for a last couple of weeks

Re: How long have YOU been in YSF?
I've been playing YSFlight for quite awhile, I joined the old YS Pilots forums (where did they go?) back in 2007.
Things looked a little different back then. I can't say I've been active in the community since maybe 2010.

Yes, agreed! It's literally heart-warming to see Owl again. We all used to pull our hair out of the more limited options YS had back then and we loved every minute of it.Honey Badger wrote:If no one minds a quick derail, welcome to HQ, Owl. Great to see a legend joining our ranks.
Owl was kind enough to accept my input when the YS community was starting to experiment with more realistic atmospheric colours; overcast shades and such.
