Even with the largest maps you'd be able to see ALL of it and this would cause huge lag as YS tries to draw the entire map at once. This is one of the reason we use map frames (pink boxes) on maps, the pink boxes tell YS what parts to draw and what parts not to draw.
I'm not bothered about seeing the map... the haze can remain, exactly as is; the map can be invisible, that's okay too. Just change the sky colour. Keep it simple, and it just might work. If only I could get my hands on the code... the code... (Homer Simpson drooling sounds)

Some things I would like to see in YS,

Being able to set the gear extend/retract speed. To me this doesn't look that hard, and could be a new line in the .dat file. Example:

Code: Select all

LDGEXTND 5.0 #LANDING GEAR EXTEND TIME (SEC)
When 2 new CLA's are added for the right and left gear, assymetrical gear retaction/extension can be added, which could result in this/these parameter(s) in the .dat:

Code: Select all

LDGEXTND 5.0-6.0 #LANDING GEAR EXTEND TIME (SEC)

OR

LDGEXTD1 5.0 #MINIMUM LANDING GEAR EXTEND TIME (SEC)
LDGEXTD2 6.0 #MAXIMUM LANDING GEAR EXTEND TIME (SEC)
In which YS chooses a time with a random number between those 2 parameters. (I believe that's possible, even my TI-84 can do that)

Tell me what you guys think!

Unneeded. Wayy uneeded. Come on. This was a low-end game designed for simplicity.

From an email Soji sent me, back in 2007:
Soji wrote:Adding random factor is not so easy in the network environment because a random factor may make different results in different clients. (That's why YSFLIGHT is sort of very deterministic.)
I think what he refers to is that it is not easy to have the random number seed synchronized between server and all the clients without generating another massive amount of network traffic.

Improved Direct X support for controllers.

my Cougar MFD's work with everything BUT YS flight when I use the TARGET programming software.
They say that he feeds upon the tears of newbs, and that he spent an entire day feeding an effigy of Ricm into a desk fan. All we know is, he's called Animal.

The ability to set up climates in the editor and specify how many clouds, how far out they go from the .stp, and their density. I'm not asking for snow and rain or anything, but the ability to use clouds to give the game different "looking" weather scenarios.

As with grigor's darkening sky, I would like gravity to decrease when you near the 100km line.

Also, allowing for aircraft to come into contact without crashing. So you could have a carrier aircraft.

I don't know if it is posted yet, and forgive me if i'm wrong, but i would appreciate flak ^^

It's just simple, put the bomb explosion "spheres" or "blast" at a certain altitude and when your plane gets too near, health decrease or Insta-kill for a direct flak hit :D

A single dialogue box for visual errors that then loads the block plane (rather than the endless string that require you to start all over again).

You can it will cruise at whatever speed you start it at so you just adjust your speed before hand.
