Mimicking Ejections

Post by Dision » Sat Mar 07, 2015 10:12 pm

Could there be a possible way to mimick an ejection without animations?

I was thinking about using a flarepod/flare perhaps as an ejection seat and launch it into the air.
Could that be an idea?
Or is has it to be much more complicated than this?

The only time I've seen anyone mimick ejections was when Flake had the feature on some of his F-18's but they were animations and you had to press "." or reverse thrust (right?).

I don't know if it's possible to really make it work any other way. Flares . . . maybe, but then you'd be spawning pilots to eject them . . .

A fuel tank maybe?

But then the pilot will explode when he grounds...

Flares might be your best bet. You can control their ejection position, velocity and also their shape.

What if you were to use a page down key for an animation that would both make it look as if the plane had exploded, and you ejected. That way you could just float down to earth in your parachute.

And what if Key combination were implemented?
You could set up a whole viarity of animations then.

if only we had such freedom to animate........
great idea, but the flare seems to be the most feelsable.

I seem to remember an airshow a few years back that had a C-17 that featured paratroopers deploying out the back. But for the life of me I can not remember who's it was.I was just thinking that if you could get a hold of that you could adjust it to an ejecting pilot scenario.

If we had more freedom in animations or weapons (refering to remote controlled weapons), we could get creative with that.
Or, and i hope it might be possible in the future, linking two pilotable objects. Like switching vehicles.

Vehicle Simulator has an ejection feature. Hit F11 and it spawns a pilot from the cockpit. Its just the pilot, no ejector seat. If only YS had that...

I'll message soji and see if I can get him to relax the restrictions on the server. I want to develop a list of things I would like to see changed code wise in YSF (minor code changes - eg: mach speed to 2 digits, change flare duration... but mostly server stuff as YSF is restrictive in some aspects.

For example, the most relevent here, is that YSF cannot accept a new vehicle for a client unless the client has MADE a join request. (The client crashes, at least it does in my experience...)

I might also write up a netcode whitepaper of all I understand so far and ask Soji politely to fill in the blanks. :)
I am an accountant working full-time (and some). I'm not here as often as I would like to be. Send a message if you need me. There are a few people in the community who can get in contact with me urgently if you need - don't be afraid to ask. I just don't check here as frequently as I used to. Sorry!

Oh, I figured he meant removing the decimal points, and limiting the mach number to only 2.

Limit the mach number to 2? I may not fly that fast on most fights, but I NEED mach 50 instrumentation
