Overrun Tailstrike

OK we all know this feature is completely useless and (IMO) very irritating. It's been a downside to the game for who knows how long.

But here's an interesting idea by the infamous GT:
Galen Thurber wrote:Idea submitted
limit off runway speed with TIREFRIC 0.004 #TIRE FRICTION COEFFICIENT
could be made to go high when off the runway
this would limit high acceleration when off the runway
and you could reduce the bouncy roll effect
maybe even add dust trails
Source: http://www.flightsimhq.org/ysflight/limitations.html

Which means we could limit the top speed or acceleration by a certain % when on an unpaved field. Should we have this implemented into the game?

It never bothered me in the least.I just turned it off and left it there and the same for all the other limitation.

Are you talking about the hitting potholes in unpaved fields over 20 knots and getting flung all over the place? Always hated that feature...

@Gunny... I dun get it... No Tail Strike Accident? That doesn't stop the unpaved field shaking...

Paving the entire map takes care of the problem, but it would be better if there were three classes: Water, Unpaved Ground, Paved Ground. Then there could be a .dat entry like "LANDWAT TRUE/FALSE", "LANDUNP TRUE/FALSE", and "LANDPAV TRUE/FALSE".

@Flake Check Can land anywhere [if slow enough.]But even in real life you will shimmy and shake on unpaved[Grass]landings hence the big tires on bushplanes to help absorb some of the shock on unimproved or no fields and bouncing once or twice is the price for to much speed on landings. But I agree that Ys limits need to be fine tuned for unexpected situations. Also I have long thought that it should be possible to keep gear up on a water ditch situation or for anphibs.

There just needs to be roughness coefficient for maps and a landing gear suspension coefficient for aircraft that allows something between negligible vibration and flipping over aircraft. You could probably add a damage-per-distance factor (with an upper limit) into that as well, so if you're landing a Hornet in a soft paddock, you're going to damage your aircraft to a certain degree. Some areas are just plain going to be impossible to land any aircraft on in real life, while others are perfectly fine to take-off and land on.

the problem is when it throws you upside down/ 90 degrees, and 10ft off the ground, I am fine with the bouncy roll.
