VR helmet use in YS

Post by ysmajor »

Hi all,

Just a question about VR.
Does anyone have an Oculus or something similar laying around, and would it work in the 3D world of YS?

If we could get this to work it would be really really fun IMHO.
(... and we'll have to work on cockpit details a bit more in our visual models :? )

With how you can have the mouse keyed to the pilots view and turn all the way around, I bet there is some way to do this with very minor helper code. Key the VRs accelerators to the mouse and you are almost there. This sounds like it would be epic to do. If ppl went this way, you could forget about having a detailed external model and just go for the cockpit.

Oculus Rift is due to ship for private use 01 July 2016. I know where my tax return is going... 8-)

With it I'll probably re-appropriate my tv that I use as a monitor entirely and just use the headset. Touch Typing skill increased to level 99.

Just thinking about keyboard controls though.
With the helmet you can't find the keys on the key board, and there are no 'touchable' items in our cockpits yet.
(that is: the stick and throttle react to the movement of the plane, not the other way around.)

So, with a VR helmet, we would have to have full throttle and stick controllability to avoid having to take off the helmet to lower your flaps for instance.

Possible solutions?
