Anyone else like this idea? (Sky fading w/ altitude)

Just wondering- is anyone else interested in the idea of a sky that darkens with altitude (maybe going completely black at 60-70,000ft)?

Flake (AKA xX_SuperSic58_Xx, OfficerFlake) has implemented this into the OpenYS console server. For example, my server, the YS CivAv Server, uses OpenYS, so if you are flying a jet high enough into the atmosphere the sky will grow darker as you go.

I like this idea. It makes it very realistic :) However, it should be a gradient, meaning it shouldn't turn black immediately. Like a dark blue, grey, etc in between.

I used Grigor's Spectre and got to over 800,000 feet, but the sky is still blue? :D

300,00ft is the "edge of space" and when I get to that altitude the speedometer or whatever that is drops from 1500 knots to 0.

That is what happens in OpenYS.

What's the host name for your server?

Check out the Online Server List on the left side of the forum.

Just tested OpenYS, but the sky doesn't seem to be darkening. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?

There are some versions of YSFlight that will not have as many features as the 2015 version while running OpenYS. I run on YSF2012 and the sky doesn't get darker for me, yet I can still see the day turn to night and vice versa on multiplayer servers. If you are operating on the most recent YSF 2017 version then that might be the problem. If you are running on YSF 2015 version then Idk what to say lol

I'm running the version that only features "OpenYS- Server Mode.exe" and no client mode, plus a GUI settings editor. I experimented by trying to change the sky colour, but that didn't do anything. It tells me I'm using version 20161023(2339).

...It gives me "ConsoleApplication1 stopped working". Seems Bombcat got this too. What was the fix he mentioned?

You don't have to run OpenYS to join my server. Just log in using civav.ddns.net as the server address. Then take off in a fighter jet and fly to space like in the link SuperSic just posted above. :)

The reason I'm after OpenYS is because I'd like to experiment with sky and horizon colour, without the need to download extra maps or restrictions on what aircraft I can fly.

As in, you want to run your own server/local version of OYS so you can play with the effects and use your own map/aircraft list?

Go to the OYS thread and if you start counting back from the last page, you'll see a release I made for Patrick31337 a little while back. AFAIK that version is the most stable and most likely to work for you.

Thanks a lot! One last thing: How do I go about adding aircraft to the list of those usable by the server?

Any aircraft you have installed in YSF will be usable on the server. Before opening OYS Server, open the Settings GUI and make sure you have the file path for your YSF installation in the settings. Then save it and open OYS.

Just to be sure you know it, OYS only works in Windows. Also, make sure you have the latest .NET Framework installed. I kept having problems getting OYS to run on my Win7 laptop until I realized .NET Framework was very old.
