EVEN FURTHER OFF TOPIC: I forgot we had one of those...
I am an accountant working full-time (and some). I'm not here as often as I would like to be. Send a message if you need me. There are a few people in the community who can get in contact with me urgently if you need - don't be afraid to ask. I just don't check here as frequently as I used to. Sorry!

[hidden]Please get back on topic...[/hidden]
Let's start things off.

If you want the very short explanation, we don't have initiative. Even this discussion is getting nowhere as we are just throwing reasons out and not doing anything about it. This, in my opinion, is not only killing combat, but the rest of HQ as well.

To show you what I mean, here is a stark example of lack of initiative.
This is bleak...Show

And for crying out loud, this is a DEDICATED combat server. If this is the face of combat YS, it clearly isn't the face we want to see.

One way to improve this is to plan when people come online. This way, more people can be on a server at the same time, which is at least better than flying with just one another guy, or worse, flying alone.

This month: http://marcjeanmougin.free.fr/ys_server ... ration.php

Last month: http://marcjeanmougin.free.fr/ys_server ... eriod=last

It goes in ups and downs. WW3 is a fairly perculiar server and many new guys don't know how to get GAC, so they can't join. But I get what you mean.

I already have GAC AND GACRp Uploaded to a filesharing site. i just recently shared it with my Wingman, Ace Combat Colonel.

But I Agree, We need to have a Weekend Long WW3 Event Every other Weekend or something. Something, Anything to get the Combat side of the YS community to get up off it's feet.

There's only so much people are willing to do for little fun factor. I don't really find dogfighting, or YS for that matter, all that exciting anymore. I'm hanging around for the good old days, which won't come back.

Why does it have to be the "vets" that have to bring combat back? Why can't the new guys stand up and build their own future.... What can you contribute to this future?...

The details have been hashed out so many times it's getting old... Fast. It's really quite simple. Are people interested... I'd say not really. If they were, they'd make it happen regardless of time constraints and effort required.

Because sadly, most of the new people just don't care to preserve and carry on the "combat torch". Well if everyone else feels the way you do about new guys trying to revive it, then noone has any right to complain about it being dead.
I believe we still need to find a solution. My WW3 Weekends Event sparked somewhat of a flame, but we need something bigger. And Why I quoted Venom is this: Most of us nuggets don't seem to care. The 323rd's growing, and to me is starting to look like a Miniature CVW-171st. All it needs is it's own Iceman. The SARF is something I've never seen here in the Community, and that's a good thing, the 25th OF or whatever it is sounds like Team Awesome, even though from looking at it's Facebook it's somewhat of a multi-platform clan. and the Grun is just a squad trying to get in the air. Colonel's helping me get a map going, he's doing all the work, I'm supervising the design, and to be honest, I wish i could be doing more than just telling him "The ILS goes here" and "Place a AAA there". I do truly have to thank him for his work, and hopefully i find some kind of server host that can run a VM of Windows, or hell, Linux even just so i can run a Server on there.

But I Digress.

Summer is Approaching, and the Usual Crowd of people who come to YSFlight, and ergo sum, the community, are going to be those who have gotten out of school for the summer. Now, Most of that demographic is probably going to want to enter either Civil Aviation or MilAv. Hopefully for our sake it's the latter. And if it does become the latter, we'll want to look like we're a perfect fit for them. We want to be ready for new blood, not unprepared. That, and we need to have regular events going on. The Next WW3 Weekends is on May 16-18/19. We need something before then. I recall someone hosted a Event called the Winchester. Who was that? MR?

( I would use the quote but that's not working for me xD)

Hey Mahora27, my brother Dan and myself hosted those events, the server was called 'The Winchester'. We used to host events on the weekends like 3v3, 4v4 and joint missions between squads. It was also the 323rds home server so it saw a lot of activity. But no matter how much we did, it still it couldn't bring back active server combat according to some very pessimistic people (Even though we saw 7-10 users on every Saturday).

The server is now the VAS for Civ Av and very successful. We don't plan to bring it back. Hope I've answered your question Mahora27, good luck to you in helping bring combat back. Your ideas have been brilliant so far, Keep up the good work ;) Mil Av needs more optimistic people like you!

Thanks Dave, and I've been on your Server before, and other than being confused with navigation, I quite enjoyed the experience.

Anywho, We need to get the other new squads in here to debate this. I believe it will not take the will of one man to get this ball rolling. Hell, Dave and Dan Tried before, and that failed. I thank them for trying, though.

And I'm Talking to the SARF, 25th Otaku Force, and Any other Squad that hasn't fully put in their $0.02, 1 Pence, .07 Ringgits, .04 Reals, .01 Euro, or .26 Pesos, Depending on their Nationality! WE NEED SOMETHING TO GET MilAv up off the ground! I don't care if it's a Weekly Mission where we have to escort Gunny to the Hospital or Help vandal blow up a flipping bridge!

I am NOT letting YSFlight MilAv Die. NOT HERE. NOT NOW.

Thanks Mahora for the kind words, but just for the record, in my eyes me and Dan didn't fail as such we just moved on to more opportunistic things and left the pessimism behind.

Again best of luck Mahora27. ;)

I think part of the problem is that people come in with little A2A combat experience and feel a little intimidated. Perhaps if there were some basic training sessions, perhaps on opposite weekends from the WW3 weekends. Essentially it would be practice sessions for the next weekend, but it would serve to get more people interested and trained.

I remember a while back Bombcat spent perhaps 30 minutes with me on a server doing some basic things like knowing how to use missiles and radar lock properly. That probably improved my A2A effectiveness by 50% right there. It doesn't have to be a really formal thing. just getting some basic tips and some experience would be all that's needed.

Realistically it doesn't have to be someone as experienced as Bombcat, really anyone who has experience would be great to have.

any way, just some thoughts.

I agree with this. Something to get the Nuggets in the air and learning not how to crash into one another.

That was an idea I had after the Great Urban Furball, an event that I organized and was hosted on Neil's server a long time ago. 2011. Defending an SSTO that is launched from a mass driver on Wake Island. The SSTO was going to be a design of mine, the Space Mule. But I couldn't get things straight at all. So it never happened. I would love to see it, though.

Anyone who doesn't know what the hell they're doing or has the skill equivalent of a vulcher in a dogfight or less.

I pull the term from Ace Combat 5, when Bartlett calls the rookies Nuggets. Why I don't know. probably some kind of air force reference.

But anywho, Is someone other than me going to take some initiative? I'm not going to just sit here twiddling my Damned thumbs waiting for a Spark in the room!

My ww2 ops are still going on (even tho I've been less active in the last week).

questions: should I do equivalent ops in modern jets? Should I make it scheduled? (I'm thinking weeknights, EST GMT -5). What incentives to participate should I use(if any)?

I'd say whenever someone else is in a furball and welcome to other participants, go and be my guest. The thing about the Community is that we're all spread out unequally. Like a foot-long Sub sandwich with varying parts of the sandwich having varying amounts of mayo. The times we're available, online, or even combat-capable are Varied. People like Nightraven and Midnight Rambler live in Oceania, which means that for me, when it's broad daylight there, It's Nighttime for people like me, Seraphim (I know she's gone, sue me.), Bombcat, Ace Combat Colonel, Rise and Shine and Decaff, While the Day's about to start for vandal, Tigershark, and Dave and his brother. And for people who live on the west coast of the US, the Sun's setting.

Something needs to fill up that space.

... it's been almost a week and Nothing's been added to the topic. Are we just giving up? I've been patient. And aforementioned patience is way beyond worn thin.

The thing is, because the way YS is made, we have nothing to fight for really. No consequences when we die, no incentives to stay alive. If only there was a way to reliably track kills.

Cuz I'm thinking Faction war (federation VS republic or whatever). Having plenty of squads is fine, but what if we were fighting for ''the greater good'' of our faction. All we need is a way to track kills to be able to determine winning and losing faction.

It could look something like that : Each active squads pick a side. when present on same server, rival factions fight. We track kills and first faction to reach X kills wins!

Aditionnal details: It could be scheduled (but i think it would be better to be anytime, during a certain period of time, like a few weeks long).Squad leaders could select a faction leader. Then faction leaders could set up organized large scale events / ops (bombing, recon, intercept) during week-ends. Maybe Factions activities should be limited to one server only.

Aditionnal ideas: Maybe find a way to track fuel used, weapons used and aircrafts used to calculate the ''cost of war'' and implement it in the victory equation.

I'm not sure how all this could actually be pulled off. Maybe someone with better technical knowledge of the game could tell if that's even doable?
