Standardisation

Why is everybody so determined to standardise everything?

First ATC, Navigation methods and now Maps.

I go by the saying "each to his own" because different people like different things, and they should not be stopped because it is not the "standard" way of doing things.

ATC and Navigation is more about just being able to communicate effectively... if everyone is using different terminology, it could get confusing. As far as the maps go, it's just about trying to make it accessible to as many people as possible. If every server is running a different map that someone has to go download and install, it could be slightly discouraging.

That's my explanation, anyways... I'm really not involved in the map, except that I'd like to see someone make a really, really big one so I can do a nice 5-hour flight :D

It's okay, Wingz. Clearly he's never had the sheer satisfaction of being able to swap out parts in cars the SAE has dictated be standardized.

A non-standardized airway is called a grave yard in the air.
Going with the flow is not always a bad thing. ;)

LPS started the map topic more or less to choose a standard Hawaii (there are like 7 different versions).
I think VA's should be able to fly on any map they want rather than just one, this is why I think the megadodo map is a good idea.

We could pick any maps we wanted, and have them all going on a server at the same time... The Hawaii VA's have their map, Kodiak another, Australia another etc...

Or never tried plugging his super-awesome non-standard 3.765mm headphones into a 3.5mm jack.

You guys dont get it.

I mean, we dont all hve to fly 1 type of Hawaii, and trying to force me to confrom to PMNV is not going to help.

Navigation methods are of course completely different. FAVA goes VOR to VOR (more direct routes) while ATVA uses the VORs but follows set radials. You cant force one to stop its methods, as ther is a ood case for both and they work.

FAVA and OAVA both do the pilots preference as then the pilots get more of a say

Does that mean other VAs must use your preferred system?

Not when we're flying alone, no, but if you want to fly with other people (which is kind of the goal with VA stuff), due to YSF's limitations, you DO have to be on the same map as everyone else.

no but it means our pilots choose and we won't stanardise

and in real life you have 4 types of navigation

1. Direct
2. VOR to VOR
3. High Altitude Airways
4. Low Altitude Airways

You also have the navigation called "from this village to that other, then follow that river, you'll see a big house and right next to it should be an airfield", but that's a whole another story.... ;)

The point is simple:

DON'T STANDARDISE! makng people conform wont go well.

The point is that different Hawaiis have different nuances. It's for convenience. We've done it before and we can do it again, but you happen to be throwing your self-righteous anarchist wrench in the works when--as I am an anarchocapitalist--I think you're pretty annoying.

Thank you JR.

I personally don't give a hoot what map people fly, most VA's have Hawaii as their hub and I think it's a personal choice about what version is flown... Either way they all go to the same places...

Agreed, and Halb I am not an anarchist trying to cause chaos by being, "self-righteous". I'm just making a valid point that VAs do thing differently from each other.

Now that has been settled. I think we see that you can't standardise everything.
