[SEPT 4] Tour of Tennessee (YSCAS)

Post by Neocon » Thu Aug 28, 2014 5:17 pm

The YS Civil Aviation Server presents an evening of flying in the South with

A Tour of Tennessee.

WHEN: Thursday, September 4th, 2014. 8:00 PM CDT (Friday, September 5th, 1:00 AM GMT) It should last around 90 minutes.

SERVER: civav.ddns.net

WHAT IT IS: This is a fun flight across the state of Tennessee. This is a casual event. If you cannot stay for the entire time you can land at an airport along the way. If you join late you can take off from an airport along the way.

WHAT IT IS NOT: This is not a race. We will be cruising at 2,500 feet at a speed of 200 kts TAS. This is not an air show, so you will not need any special acrobatic skills for this flight. We will not be flying in any special formation, although everyone needs to stay within a 3-mile radius of the lead plane (the 5-mile RADAR box).

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: There is no registration for this event, but if you plan to participate you can post here. I know this is on a Thursday evening, so many people will not be able to make it.

FLIGHT PLAN: We will start our flight across the state at Smyrna Airport at the general aviation parking area and taxi to the active runway. We will then take off and fly at a heading of 240 until we get to the point where Highway 412 crosses the Tennessee River. We will then turn to 270 until we come into sight of Beech River Regional Airport. After a fly-over of Beech River Regional, we will fly at a heading of 320 until we reach Highway 22, which we will follow until we fly over my house and drop flares in my front yard. Continuing to follow Highway 22, we will fly over Everett-Stewart Airport and turn to heading 220, passing near Arnold Field and Dyersburg Regional Airport. Finally, we will travel at heading 210 and land at Memphis International Airport and taxi to park near the NatComAir hangar.

MAP: TENNESSEE-RACE

As long as it can keep up. I will be leading the tour in a Hawker 400, and plan to maintain 200 knots. I was flying this flight plan this morning when I had the server running and it took just under 90 minutes. I would rather not go over 90 minutes.

I might need to restrict what aircraft are used so it is easier to make sure everybody has them installed.

Sounds fun! Why not have modders mod their planes and have it like a show off event kind of like the Gumball 3000? That would be really cool! Also why a weekday, I'm sure you'll get more attendees at the weekend! ;)
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

If anyone wants to paint their own civilian aircraft capable of keeping up with a Hawker 400 jet, that would be fine with me. I will update the first post to say so. :)

I'm planning a much bigger event later on. This is being put together rather quickly (only a week away). The next one will be on a Sunday. The reason I'm not planning any events on a Saturday is because I'm rarely available on Saturday.

I really wish to participate but i've got exams on 4th Sep and 1.00 AM GMT means 6.30 AM here. My mom surely wont let me use PC at that time especially when i've got exams at 9.30AM.

I think that would be Friday morning if you are east if the UK.

I just updated the first post to include a list of aircraft I will have installed and a note to contact me if there is anything not on that list that you plan to fly. Also, Tennessee RACE is now available. I will edit the first post with a link.

Mobiyus and Barracuz gave pretty good answers to a question about using headings. CLICK HERE.

This is what it looks like on the Heads Up Display (HUD):
The compass on the standard (non-simple) HUD.
The compass on the standard (non-simple) HUD.
This is what it looks like on your instrument panel:
The compass as it appears on the instrument panel.
The compass as it appears on the instrument panel.
As for the basics of reading a compass, North is 360, East is 090, South is 180, and West is 270. A compass is set up with 360°. There are marks around the compass with numbers or letters. N, 3, 6, E, 12, 15, S, etc. N is for North, or 360°. If it is on 15, the heading is 150°. There are also marks for the heading numbers between those, but don't have numbers to save space. Just count them. The longer marks are whole numbers, the shorter ones are 5 degrees.

Here are some examples of how to read a compass.
An example of some headings.
An example of some headings.
If you are currently at a heading of 315° and want to fly at a heading of 240°, you turn left until the 24 line lines up with the indicator line on the compass. If you wanted to flay at 020 you would turn right until they are lined up.

But if the detailed HUD is to cluttered or confusing you can try the Simple version much less confusing for the novice. ;)

I didn't post here earlier because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to attend, but it turns out I'm free for the evening. Also, if we have Teamspeak is it alright to log in on the HQ Teamspeak channel? It'd definitely make it more fun (and easier for communication). I realize not everyone has TS or wants to log in, just saying if we want to is that ok?

Not making it compulsory by any means.

My general rant: I will call them blended winglets, not Sharklets; There is no CEO, it's just simply put, an Airbus 319/320/321, or the 320NEO, 321NEO etc. I didn't land IN DAL, I landed AT DAL. On the other hand, I did land in Dallas.

I don't usually talk on Teamspeak, and will use the in-game chat system. If everybody wants to talk, that's fine with me. My other concern is that with my connection speeds, adding Teamspeak on my end may cause trouble. We'll see.

^Ok, no problemo here. I didn't think about connection speeds and the like, so I'm totally cool with using the chat; just that I might be a little slow in responding :P.

Oh that turned out colorful! I just saw block planes except for Mobiyus. It was quite fun flying with you and the map was awesome! We should do it again sometime.
