The thrust reverse is used on aircraft to slow them down more quickly while on the ground. In YS flight the thrust reverse is generally on airliners, and can be used on other aircraft as a parachute. You can activate it using the default "," comma key, and it will slow you down faster or it will back your plane up like a car in reverse. It just depends on if the aircraft is stopped or not.
Hope this helps!
Oh, and here's a video showing it: https://youtu.be/21vkambAtFk
The thrust reverse is in use when the engine cowling is split into the two parts.
EDIT: Flake got it right. Period "." key, not the comma.

Try with the stock 747 when spawned on the runway. Press the period key, " . ", and watch as you roll backwards (brakes are off!)
I am an accountant working full-time (and some). I'm not here as often as I would like to be. Send a message if you need me. There are a few people in the community who can get in contact with me urgently if you need - don't be afraid to ask. I just don't check here as frequently as I used to. Sorry!
