phpVMS site set up

Post by wingzfan99 »

Hey all,

Even though I lost my election, I'd still like to contribute a bit. I've gone ahead and set up a phpVMS instance on my personal web server: http://dustinsneath.com/vms

For any VA that wants to participate, your admin needs to sign up as a pilot then post here with your VA's name and short code. Please use the same usernames as your HQ accounts if possible.

Is there still interest in using phpVMS? It looks like the 3.0 version was recently announced (still in development): https://phpvms.net/
I make this website.

What would be the benefits of using phpVMS? I'm not familiar with the more-professionally-run VAs, so this is a new concept for me. A little looking around indicates that it would allow detailed flight scheduling, pricing, etc., that would provide some realism to the VA world.

What's the plan?

Honestly Patrick, from experience it's not really worth it. I liked it when pava used it, it added some very unique features, allows you to see statistics for most flown routes, most used aircraft on short or long routes, how much money your VA made in commission, how much fuel used in total, how many miles flown etc. Also depends on how good you are with coding, you could make a very nice website, however I came across some issues doing so, some very small ones which would stop the entire site from working lol. You'd also need a reliable host that won't mess up on you. Like the pava one did. The captcha page stopped working with our host, stopping people from submitting applications and pireps. But all honesty, it's more hassle than it's worth with YS. I think the old style Websites and Google forms are still one of the best and most reliable ways to go!
