Due to copyrights laws of the United States of America and to prevent Copyright Troubles with the real world airlines [e. g. Atlantic Airlines] I decided to change all relative with AAVA (now it's nothing).

Let this incident be a lesson for all VA, be it in YSFlight or otherwise - If you decide to use the likeness of a actual airline, don't be surprised if they come to you with a cease and desist order.

Nonetheless, it's sad to see this happen, regardless of the circumstances.

I received an email of General Office, some d%$g client has been confusing about the VA and Real ones. But I don't want any legal process, so we decided to close.

I looked up Atlantic Airlines and found some small airline in the UK that has 14 aircraft, and none of them look like yours. Was your airline fictional or based on that airline?

I contacted the General Office and we concluded to close this VA.

I looked them up. General Office apparently owns a Cessna with the word "Atlantic" on the side. You are very polite agreeing to General Office's request. They do, indeed, claim to have the name "Atlantic Airlines" trademarked, but as I've said, there is also an Atlantic Airlines operating out of the UK and I'm sure they are trademarked there.

Very mature of you Lucas to take the initiative and shut down. I remember trying to contact easy jet before penguin airways was born as we were planning on opening an easy VA, to their requests we didn't. Always follow what the real life airlines say unless they allow you to use their name folks!

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, but I don't like the idea of people being pushed around for no reason. It's one thing for a real-world airline to protect their brand and trademarks from unauthorized virtual replications, but this company seems to think they are the only company in the world that can have the words "Atlantic Airlines" in their name when there are many other airlines that do. Atlantic Airlines Virtual Airline with a 737 with a fictional livery is not the same as a VA based on Atlantic Airlines with a C172 in a completely different livery. General Office's website doesn't even come up on the first two pages of results on Google.

Like I said, Lucas, you were very polite. I would send notice to the Atlantic Airlines home office in the UK and let them know some guy with a Cessna is claiming to own their name.

Key here is to first contact the legal dept of the airline you wish to copy. Many big VAs like the delta and hawaiin airlines have done this. But since you created it first and assumed it was non existent, though I totally see why you did, they have rights to their name.

If you really want to keep your name you should check the name/trademark patent to see if it covers any variations and contact the legal dept just to make sure. But to be honest I wouldn't bother just to avoid problems. Plenty of other cool names you can use.

I remember this being a problem back during the yspilots days too. But we did have the northwest va.

Back when I made my first Alaska scenery I tried to get permission to use the Alaskan Airways Logo and trademarks.All I got was a runaround and in the end they wanted $10,000.00 a year licenceing fee.Even after I assured them that there would be no moneys generated by my use of them and that public exposer would be minimal at the vary least.Hence no Gunny related va for Alaska.My plan was to ask Pat [NCA] to go into a limited partnership since his project Rowe was the basis for the Alaska scenery.But as they say the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray
The moral of the story being do not get involved with real world airlines legal departments.They will tie you up in red tape and throw you under the wheels of a 747.

As someone who's not too fond of copyright or trademarks as a whole - I can safely say I'd stick a wrench in the retraction mechanism before they crush me as a final middle finger.
