Airshow Question

Post by Bear »

I'd love to participate in airshows, since I love aerobatic flying, but I can't attend most airshows because I can only fly on weekdays- is there a way for me to participate in this side of YS?

You could make a display using replay files, send that to the host of the show, and then they can load it into the server to have it basically do a real-time replay of what you flew. There's a few little drawbacks, like that it doesn't let you use smoke, but it also means you can fly any number of planes yourself (Zak is even using it to do a staggering nine-ship display at Air & Space Expo soon!). Here's what those look like in action:
And this same method applied outside of a community airshow context:

In the past, we've thrown out the idea of hosting Friday-night events before the Saturday main event. If this works for you, I can definitely make a note of it for the future!!

Thanks to you both! Indy, I would love to fly a Friday night event, but due to prior commitments that’s unfortunately not possible. I’ll definitely try the replay method- hopefully I’ll be able to participate in YSAC and YSAA!

Another question- do I need to use the 2012 version of YS to record or can I stick with the 2015 flavor?

It depends on which version the airshow is using. There are some extra hoops you have to jump through if you're using a different version and it's generally not worth it when the installation of the 2012 version (or whichever version the show is using) can take as little as 1 minute. Best to stick with the show version.
