With the 2021 YSFHQ airshow season being unexpectedly cut short, we at YSMAA felt that we should take the opportunity to bring the community one last small event to round out the season. The Gatwick Takeover, as we have termed it, will take the place of next week's Friday Night Flight, and begin in the same time slot on Saturday, January 8 (or January 9, depending on your time zone). So, what will this event entail?

The first portion of the Gatwick Takeover will be a group flight from Edinburgh (EGPH) to London Gatwick (EGKK), in the same manner as our weekly Friday Night Flights. However, this time, it's with a twist: in the time between the posting of this thread and Thursday, January 6, everyone who intends to take part in the group flight will have the opportunity to specifically request packs to be installed on the server containing aircraft they want to fly. Ever wanted to bring one of the Team Awesome mechas to an FNF? Well, this is the event for you!

Following a server restart and map change, the second portion of the Gatwick Takeover will be a small airshow, ending with the debut of the new 2UCW Tankbusters. Given the short time frame to prepare, we only expect a few sign-ups at absolute most, and recommend that anyone considering doing so only bring what they can adequately prepare on such short notice.

NOTE: Also due in part to the short staging time, we will only be able to provide music services for the aerobatic portion of the event. With that said, do not worry about providing narration materials to us - all we need is, at most, a selection of music (lest you risk us rickrolling you!) and a corresponding maneuvers list.

For the aerobatic portion of the Gatwick Takeover, we will be waiving the normal YSMAA rule of only accepting military displays. Single performers remain limited to entering with two (2) solo displays.

Probably setting a record for the fastest event postponement in HQ history, we've decided to move this event back a few weeks to January 8th. It quickly became apparent behind the scenes that we needed more time to get everything ready, so if the breakneck pace was too much for any of you, hopefully, this news is welcome to you!

With this comes another announcement: the final act of the fly-in will now be the debut of the 2UCW Tankbusters, a live-fire duo which has been inactive since the 2014 Sky Surfers Fly-In. Our pack is already available to download as part of the 2UCW Custom Aircraft Pack.

Two announcements:

1) Due to the results of a poll on the YSMAA Discord, the Gatwick Takeover has been rescheduled within the day to begin on Saturday, January 8th at 1500 UTC - the normal airshow time slot.

2) As discussed before, the first portion of the Gatwick Takeover is a group flight, different from our regular Friday Night Flights in that everyone gets a chance to recommend to us aircraft packs that they want to use. Well, we've reworked the process for doing so: if you want to suggest a pack to be installed on the server during the group flight, please fill out the form provided in the "Pack Suggestions" channel on our Discord.
