Anyone up for an airshow?

Post by wingzfan99 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 4:34 pm

So, I'm looking for a cool way to celebrate YSU's 2nd anniversary, to promote the addons we host, and to announce/showcase the 2013 Addon of the Year Winner.

So I thought, "How about an airshow?"

Problem is, I have no experience organizing such a thing and don't want to screw it up. So I'm looking for help from you guys, the experts.

How do I start?

Is there a preferred host for such things?

How should I go about booking acts? All I know is that I want them to use things that are hosted on YSU, but other than that...

What time should the show be? How long should it run?

Of course, if one of the Airshow groups would like to sponsor/organize the show in partnership with me, I'd be eternally grateful. Plus, it might become an annual thing, which is cool. So, post here or PM me if you are interested in organizing or if you just have suggestions.

Thanks!

(P.S. -- the 2 year anniversary is January 26, which falls on a Sunday this year...)

I would love to help to organize this, but I am moving house sometime January, hence why my airshow has had a bit short notice.
A few things to help though from my perspective:
1) Set out the show on a post neatly and so it is clear what is going on.
2) Posters help! Make an eye catching poster to promote the show in several places.
3) When making a booking scheme, make sure its easy. Different people like different things. I prefer to have a box on the original post, and people comment their bookings. Others prefer to use google docs etc.
4) Make the schedule clear and make sure everyone is as happy as can be with it. If someone has a good enough reason to be at the end, they can go at the end.
5) It can run as long as it runs. Over 3-4 hours people get bored, so under that is good.

One cool thing you could do. Have different organisations do it every year.
These are MY OPINIONS. Others may disagree and do things differently. This is how I would do it.
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

THIS.

Obviously, each organization has to agree to it, but I was thinking it could rotate -- sort of like, "Who's hosting the YSU event this year?" -- I think it would be a cool way to highlight each group and let them take my minimum requirements and get creative with them.

Or you could get all the different air show groups involved at the same time? Each taking their fair share of the announcing.

As for time? I think late morning in the eastern coast of the US is a good time.

We have been trying to organize something like this for next year. This could be the thing.
