Let's Play: YSFlight

Post by Eric »

I was reading about YouTube's new "YouTube Gaming" website/app, meant to be a competitor to Twitch.tv, and I thought, how come we haven't had a livestream of our own yet? It would be a good way to get people introduced to YS and all the fun parts of the game.

For those who haven't heard of YouTube Gaming or the "Let's Play" type of video, check them out:

What do you think?

I've been thinking something like this could be a really good idea. Considering the general formlessness of YS, we might want to work out a particular structure - transit may look pretty dull unless we've got some pretty solid talkers. A good start might include the per-packaged mission files for offline play.

One idea I just had would be something like Mario Cart for YSF. Load up the Lybia map (or some other reasonably short race map) and let players have missiles and guns, just not too many of either. Multiple laps would ensure that ppl are passing by the spawn point so they can be shot down by someone coming around later. Teams or Free For All could be easily done.

Technical thoughts:
[*]Each player would have to record their own audio via something like audacity. We would all be on TS as well, but this would enable easier editing.

[*]The replay file would be used to film the lets play based on the audio and spectators. This would allow the removal of in-game chat text and make for a cleaner video. This also reduces the need for live filming and the computer demands to do that, record audio and play YSFlight.
[*] While ^^^ isn't as reactive or Let's Play like, it would allow for more people/personalities to get into the show.
