Decaff's YSFlight Scenery Editor Tutorial

Post by decaff_42 »

Okay, so here it is, a massive tutorial about scenery editor, covering everything that I could think of.

This is intended to be a one-stop-shop about Scenery Editor. Be warned that there are Mac specific install and operational details, but everything that is done within scenery Editor should be applicable to all operating systems.

READ THE Forward/Preface/Introduction Thingy from Author BEFORE READING THE TUTORIAL

Dear DeCaff_42;
First I salute you for the tutorial. It is amazingly comprehensive and one can only imagine the patience and time you put into creating it. I shall keep it safe and refer to it if I am ever brave enough to try and actual create a scenario, from scratch, on my own. For now, I have only a couple of simple question:
1) Can the original maps (those which come standard with the original YS Flight Simulator Program be modified?
2) If so, can you please guide me (step-by-step...I am not very clever!) in converting an "unpaved" scenario into a "paved" scenario, so that I can fly a few Float-Planes.
Thank you!
John (The Newbie) :)

Hey, great that you are interested in float-planes. We need some more of those! :D

The way to do that is to simply make a runway rectangular region somewhere on your map, and if you want, make some runway lights or a point array around it to mark it off.

Both of those tools should be in there. I believe there is a map with a floatplane runway. I know I've flown it, but I'm not sure what its name was. :?

Actaully I want to convert North Kyusu Y S Flight to all "paved" so that I can land anywhere on those 'miles' and 'miles' of ocean...and thank you for not thinking I am a dork for liking float-planes. I just think they are so romantic--as in a bygone era of flight.
So, how do I take a map like North Kyusu and make it all "paved''? :)

Ok I see by your profile that you are 41 years old and a trainer of some sort.So as a trainer you know the best way to learn is by trial and error.As with most of us our experiance was also by trial and error.You have the tools and the software you need to dive in and start working.So you make mistakes so be it.You learn by your mistakes.I know I may be critisized for this as being overly harsh BUT there is nothing in the software that will kill you if you make a mistake and most of the software is pretty much bullit proof(It will not be harmed by mistakes.)so being afraid of errors will get you nowhere.GET TO WORK. ;)
