Japanese Text Editor for Windows

Post by KM6BZH » Tue Sep 27, 2016 5:04 am

Did you ever have a problem where you couldn't read what was on a readme file from a Japanese author? Well, the Windows just mess with the stuff, and you can't open it with the normal text editor. I found a text editor which can open those documents, and show it in Japanese :D (you can send the Japanese stuff to me and I'll translate it 8-) )
So here it is...
http://sakura-editor.sourceforge.net/

It has a Japanese installer, but if you just guess, it should work.

I found that problem with Japanese readme text files mostly are in its encoding, that is "CP932".

But most number of us use text editor that set to read "UTF-8" or some other encoding by default.

For read problematic text files from Japanese moders you can use text editor "Geany":
https://www.geany.org/

Only after opening those text files in Geany go to "File > Reload As > East Asian > Japanese (CP932)".

Think most number of other text editors has similar functionality.

notepad++ is the best IMO
I am an accountant working full-time (and some). I'm not here as often as I would like to be. Send a message if you need me. There are a few people in the community who can get in contact with me urgently if you need - don't be afraid to ask. I just don't check here as frequently as I used to. Sorry!

On mac I have found that you can open the text file into word using the following presets in the popup window for import:
