Request | Australian Scenery

Post by dbd000 »

Hey everyone.

I was wondering if there were any modders out there who would be up for making a map for parts of Australia. I'm requesting this on behalf of all Australian users and those who wish to fly Qantas, Jetstar, Regional Express and Virgin Australia (Not that there are any Virgin Australia aircraft) where they come from. I'm also requesting this personally as I have recently released a Regional Express Saab 340B in which I would like people to be able to fly in Aussie. There are a few parts of Australia that would be ideal for the first Australian based scenery:
- Queensland (Main Airports: Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville, Rockingham, Gold Coast.)
- New South Wales (Main Airports: Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong.)
- Western Australia (Main Airports: Perth, Geraldton, Port Hedland, Bunbury, Albany.)
- Victoria (Main Airports: Melbourne.)

Others are:
- South Australia (Main Airports: Adelaide, Port Lincoln.)
- Northern Territory (Main Airports: Darwin, Uluru, Alice Springs.)
- A.C.T (Main Airports: Canberra.)
- Tasmania (Main Airports: Hobart, Devonport, Launceston.)

I hope someone is up for this as I believe there are many users who would love to fly in Australia. (These maps will also be great for VAs!)

Well should this include the whole island or different sceneries.

I think a single large scenery with pmnv style detail will be best.

I guess the whole Australia map would be too big,but we maybe could make it in series of 4 sceneries (north, south, east and west)

Yea you might be right it's 2500 miles wide. Pacific Rim map is around 1200 iirc.

I have tried this myself.

a 1:1 size map, centered around Newcastle, NSW, shook bad enough near Tindal, NT, so I gave up.

It may work if you center the map around Uluru.

I tried a cell based method of map rendering (breaking the map into multiple 10000 square kilometer segments.) and that was inconclusive.

I highly advise each airport be made as it's own FLD file then imported into the final map to save lag and make more precise in rendering without shakiness. (Less floating points to be diminished.)

If you can get the map skeleton happening, I'll chip in regional airports in NSW + Newcastle Civilian and Military.

I am an accountant working full-time (and some). I'm not here as often as I would like to be. Send a message if you need me. There are a few people in the community who can get in contact with me urgently if you need - don't be afraid to ask. I just don't check here as frequently as I used to. Sorry!
