Combat Competition

So I was thinking. Maybe sometime in the new year, HQ hosts it's first combat competition/event/war (GASP! The 'W' word).

I was thinking of running it differently to a normal competition in that it could be run like a war.

Say two teams are set up, forums here on HQ and any member of the forum can sign up to fight. Two team leaders would need to be chosen who would pick their pilots from a topic of those that sign up. The combat admins and I would balance the teams so that we don't have a blacklist/171 vs the rest situation. A theme could be set up also.

TS channels could be created on the HQ TS server that are password protected or each team could host their own. Essentially a dedicated server would be run for... Let's suggest 48hours with 1 or 3 (?) hour resets over a weekend. This would allow people from any time zone to play and help contribute to their team. This idea then makes team selection crucial to success as the leaders must find pilots and build a well rounded team with a good spread on timezones. An example of this would be to use pilots from the 5+ to 12+ GMT timezones where few people fly, if they have no competition one pilot could clear the enemy island in very little time and wait for a reset before repeating. Ultimately turning the tide of the war (hint: that's me, Flake, Crazypilot, F-16 etc....)

Preferably a map and some aircraft would be created for the event but I think some old 171/49 SQWAR maps and aircraft are still around which could be used as they were GAC and had identical .dats.

Now, for fairness a point collection a system would need to be created. I think that YSPS has a point system that could be used however if that doesn't work/too laggy then another system would need to be thought of... Perhaps something to do with YSC?
A certain number of points could be collected from different objects... Say 5 points for an a2a kill while 1 point for every ground object? 3 per ship? We'll sort it out.

Now, as for rules:

Should vulching be allowed?
I believe missiles should be allowed, makes it interesting and practically allows anyone to play.
Only people that have signed up are allowed on the server (a bit harsh maybe, but lessens lag and stops random attacks. If randoms join, people with the password for YSPS could kick/ban them)
If you fly, you must have your online name registered in the war topic and wear your team/squads tag. (a given)
No trim.

Thoughts?

Not how I'd do it, but I'd be delighted to see it happen. Good idea rambler.

Or we could have 1 battle daily for the duration of the war at a time when for the majority of YSFHQ can come online.

War. War never changes. Also, I have a suggestion, apart from using fighters, can we use infantry?

Well that's what has mostly been done in the past and so far it's always been 1 - 4am for me meaning that I and a lot of others can never make it. Also as we saw with the furball event a lot of people say they'll turn up at a time, but never do. At least with this sort of thing people can fly/fight at a time that is easy for them.

The whole idea was just a thought for an event, any event. If it sounds stupid we'll organize something completely different.
