Looks like Soji is working on a new YSFlight editor program...and I gotta say I'm liking the OS it's running on 8-)

That looks like a 3d editor O.o

REALLY!?

Yes, yes it is a 3d editor.

I hope it's a lot easier to use than the current group of programs. I've got some repaints in mind ;)

3D editors are never easy to use, because of the 2D screen/3D object thing.

Also. We should get soji to get rid of the blue color for windows. It sucks. If he'd use a shade of black like the GAC pack, that'd make it so much better already.

I find most of what we have useful, that said, I am sure he is going to implement some cool features that the others can't do.

I'll just stick to the Blender-DNMViewer combo lol
learning a new one will take up time I might not have.

I'll just wait it out. Maybe it's easier to use than blender. I do hope though that there's transparency support...

Apologies if this has already been posted but if not, a new update on YS Flight from Soji. It appears some new stuff just for airshows (this will no doubt make airshow lovers here happy) and realistic prop simulation:
Soji Yamakawa wrote:If you watch F-22 demonstration in an airshow, it is nothing but impressive. I want to do it in YSFLIGHT. To do it, I need to enable post-stall maneuvers in YSFLIGHT. Basically, I'm a big air-show fun. So, I want to re-create the excitement of air shows in YSFLIGHT.

Still I need to do something to smooth out transition from normal maneuver to post-stall maneuver, but at this point, I can do something like the following flight record.

[DOWNLOAD F-22 Post-Stall Demo Flight Record]

Smooth transition is one of the remaining problems. If you look at F-18's high-alpha pass, it smoothly enters the maneuver. I think it is possible because F-18's strake prevents sudden loss of lift during stall. Probably the wings of F-18 smoothly lose lift beyond the critical angle of attack. In YSFLIGHT currently makes lift zero as soon as the wing reaches the critical angle of attack. I probably need to make some stall patterns.

Also, I am adding more realistic propeller simulation. I want to add Cessna 172. To do so, I want my engine to react more realistic. New realistic propeller simulation is now tested on Piper Archer and P-51 Mustang. In the next version, the .DAT file can pick between realistic propeller simulation or simplified (current) propeller simulation.

The problem with this realistic propeller simulation is that the auto-pilot cannot deal with the time delay and miserably fails. It looks nearly impossible to manually set up control parameters. So, I am now using a concept of machine learning to pick a reasonable control parameters. The technique I am implementing apparently is called Least-Square Monte-Carlo. So, it looks to be one step before machine learning, but should be a good learning opportunity for me. I have written a code to make sample training data for air-speed controller. I'll see if this idea works or not soon.

In the future, I don't know how future it is, I want to make an AI that learns from the player's air combat. Then, you can exchange your AI and let it fight an air-combat against your friend's AI. Well, it's one of the dreams I have, but I am still slowly learning the machine learning. It won't be in the near future.
Exciting stuff!

I'm excited about the more realistic prop animation. Hopefully it will be sped up from its current rotation speed.

But when are we getting better weapons? D:

We don't really need a whole drop down list of all the weapons in the world, Rise. I think we're pretty good with weapons right now but what I think should be added to the weapon collection are some other cool functioning missiles and cluster bombs. That should be that. Man, I wonder how it would look to drop a cluster bomb on something and watch all those little explosions ignite :)

A stock Cessna. :D

If the new editor program is as difficult to operate as the 2013 scenery editor, I'll stick with gepolyx/o, notepad, and dnmviewer. If it isn't a big leap from Gepolyx to the new program, I'll try my best to switch over. But I'm fat and lazy and can't make a very long leap.

I wonder if he's seen my F-22 Demo. I already DO post-stall maneuvers.

So the thing is we always shout "yay updates!" But this is just stupid.

YS doesn't need "real props" or a learning algorithm. It needs users requests and obvious bugs and performance issues addressed.

So over this bullcrap. Been waiting 3 years for the allured to "plugin support" and we've heard nothing since.

Soji seems intent on making YS more sophisticated then what it is - OpenGL 2.0, Virtual ATC and aircraft patterns... This shit is wasting so much time and effort.

A swap to udp protocal in c++ would be a huge improvemant, as would other much needed netcode fixes. and TBH it would take 2 to 3 minutes to do.

What about an API for people to hook into? Addressing bugs sent via email in bug reports? Does Soji even care anymore? I'm starting to regret ever putting coding effort into this god damned program. :x

Rein it in bub profane rants will get you nowhere.

If you think I'm going to "rein it in" because you [s]asked[/s]condescendingly told me to, you are mistaken, "bub".
