[SCENERY] Island Defense

Post by ysmajor »

Hi all, here is a little fun battlemap for you.

I do think you will need my other maps because some of the ground objects are from the vietnam/china/middle east/battle maps.

But when you have those, the challenge is to kill everyone without being killed. If you stay put on the beach or on your kearsarge you will be killed by marauding tanks and infantry perforning a flanking pincer movement, so keep moving!

Check out the pictures, on which you can see me try to run the gauntlet in an X-wing II (and yes it is possible to achieve this mission in an X-wing). The best planes to do this challenge with are low-flying attack choppers.

Have fun!

Ps, the empty beaches at the back were supposed to be another string of islands to conquer, but I'll leave that for another day.

Quick and dirty... just how I like 'em.
Possible bug: had to tag the Kearsarge "KEARSARGE" and attach the start position to it, otherwise you just blow up.
Otherwise, I can see this being a regular map to revisit!

Thanks for the feedback!
I do not have that problem here. Could it be I am running an old version? How can I tag it as a STP? I know there are various tags in scenery editor but I don't know what they mean! Thanks for any pointers you can provide.

Sure thing. To attach the STP to your carrier:
1) in Scenery Editor select ground object "USS_KEARSARGE_LHD3"
2) click "Ground Object" from the top menu then "Set Tag and ID" and type in KEARSARGE (or whatever name you want) in the Tag box
3) select STP kearsarge (top menu Select > Select Start Position)
4) click the box that says "Not On Carrier" and select KEARSARGE (which should be in a list of tagged ground objects), then click "Set"
5) save both FLD and STP files.

This also allows you to CONTINUE a simulation that began on a moving object, rather than have your plane appear in mid-air somewhere behind the carrier!

I'm using the 20090426 Scenery Editor and fsmaindx.exe version 20120701. It could be the plane I'm using that causes the problem! Keep up the great work, sir!
