I would like to introduce myself here. As recommended by your staff!
I am gonna emphasize one thing about me the most.
Most of what I am is my squadron. They are my most important motivator online.
I am sure that a handful of you have seen me and my squadron-mates flying over the skies of YSFlight already. We Combat Pilots hailing from a soft WW-2 sim called War Thunder (or WT for short). Here we have honed our dog-fighting skills and learned the basics of combat. Now we are looking for a new experience, WT has fallen short of our expectations. So some of us are moving here for a unknown amount of time. I will post a Squadron Page soon on the forums.
We found this game not to long ago actually (last week to be exact) and I introduced some of my pilots to this game. We found it to be really fun and engaging. Giving us a much better opportunity to get creative with our community.
Again we are pretty new here so be patient if we screw up on what is likely your tight-knit communities nuances of rules and structure. I apologize in advance for what will be some "Finding our Niche" pains.
The other detail than my squadron is that I am a furry (hence the name "TheFurNinja") Here is a link explaining what my fandom is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom . And that I want to be an Aeronautical Engineer hopefully in the future, designing military aircraft (mainly Fighters and such), but not for any one country.
Here are my questions
What do you feel I need to do to get my squadron up to competence in YSF?
What sort of Events should my Squadron partake in?
How does Squadron Diplomacy work here?
We would like a server, I have no experience and i'm not 100% sure anybody in my squadron does in making them. How should I go about setting our own server up?
What add-ons should we get for this game? I would like to know where I can get Russian aircraft from the Vietnam War and Newer (like the Su-27 series and PAK-FA). Could you link them below?
That's really all about me that I find important enough to share with you about me currently. I am sure that me and my squadron are going to enjoy this wonderful game and community and I invite you to help train us to become competent pilots in this game.
Thanks for the help and the warm welcome,

YSMajor's pack has a good mix of aircraft for all eras. One of the most common packs online is the General Air Combat pack (GAC) but you will find a large variety of detail levels and aircraft all around.

Don't double post, don't type in all caps, don't upload addons made by other people, don't request anything for a few weeks, don't release modifications to other people's addons without citing your sources, and when on a server stop shooting anything that drops three flairs and don't shoot anything on the ground or anything that isn't carrying weapons.
These are rules that all new members should know but won't know until they break one of them.

Anywho welcome Fur!
Pretty sure you already read the rules, pretty straightforward. And ofcourse the number one online play rule is to never attack civies, grounded planes or planes that have deployed 3 flares.
Click here to check out the military/combat subforums. Basically anything that has to do with squadrons and combat
Here's the "how to create a server" thread Or you can use of the existing servers. A good one would be the 42 south server which is online 24/7.
As for addons you should get all the addons that could possibly fit on your hard drive! Most addons are on YSUpload.com (link is on the left). As for other addons you should try browsing the add-on releases section.
Well I guess that's all I can help with. Oh and try to read up on the forums. The more you know...

Check this thread out for information on making your own server: http://forum.ysfhq.com/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=1529
42South is the most popular server at the moment, check out the details here: http://forum.ysfhq.com/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=2809
As for squads; they're in a bit of a hiatus at the moment. The major squad in YS history would be the CVW-171 where many of the best pilots have been created. My advice would be to get familiar with what is considered the standard of dogfighting in YS:
No weapons other than guns
Use of flaps
Practice with people online, it's the best advice you can get.
Good luck and hopefully fight with you guys one day
