Oh yeah. A good dose of HD F-16 vids would definitely leave a wide smile on my face most of the time.

Here's a picture of the F-35's loadout. Definitely useful for reference.
Image
  • Three things that grabbed my attention was
  • the rounds for the cannon on the F-35 are supposedly a brand new type called APEX (Armour Penetrating and Explosive). So far, the F-35 couldn't fire them yet (which is quickly noted by Hog lovers) until they're properly tested on the ground and in various flight conditions.
  • apparently HARM missiles will be implemented in the F-35. To my limited knowledge of the US weapon inventory, I thought that sung HARMs would require the aircraft to be equipped by a HARM targeting pod. Either the F-35 would be carrying these pods traditionally as pods themselves or carry them internally is beyond my knowledge.
  • the outermost missile pylons (carrying the AIM-9X) are canted outwards. Never noticed that before. But an important note nonetheless.

The outwards cant is just an optical illusion; they're just simply tilted downwards which, when combined with the upwards elevation of the wing's middle hardpoint, makes it look like it's facing away from the camera more.

As for the HARM; it's not pictured in that image, but it is slated for later addition (the image shown is just the F-35's SDD (System Development and Demonstration) munition range; what's available for use at the moment). The F-35 won't need it's targeting pod though as it already has a bunch of passive receivers in it.

Then I(and the guy who mentioned that on reddit) must be mistaken. But I'm pleasantly surprised either way that it's HARM capable. Just imagining F-35s doing SEAD missions on hostile SAM sites just gave me a hard on for it.

Yeah; easiest way to identify a HARM is with it's massive (especially when compared to the tail) forward fins (1.1m tip to tip).

Hornets lining up. The grey aggressor one looks badass.

On a more lighthearted note, groundcrew practicing some afterburner zen.

I love that "Afterburner Zen" image!

Also kinda interesting that the grey aggressor is the only Super Hornet.

Check again, decaff. The LERX on the aggressor is the same as the others. Plus, you can see the round air intakes a bit.

 Okay I totally got confused by the shadow of the intakes matching up somewhat well with the camo scheme. it looked like a smooth transition like the super hornet.

Can't blame ya. I can see the distinct lack of black bars on the LERX would confuse you easily.

A great video from back in the day. Funnily enough I remember smoking/non-smoking sections when I flew as a kid back then (yes, I am that old). And yeah, "we'll be serving you lunch after takeoff"- good luck getting that announcement to come back anytime soon LOL.

Here are SEPECAT Jaguars looking quite menacing on the runway...

And here's one sleeping under the setting sun, that or just requesting a belly rub from the ground crews...
