Why Maintenance Matters

Post by iqmal_97 »

A lesson to never forget about maintenance and training. Never take paper strength at face value.

http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/sou ... rs-010956/

Half of their 26 strong Gripen fleet is now in long term storage due to maintenance contracts expiring without renewal and lack of pilots.

Their entire fleet of 30 A109s aren't flying because no one is qualified and since they were in training slot for so long none of them are qualified to fly their Oryx helicopters from which they transferred from.

Well, that was sad...

Isn't their philosophy of aircraft design is to be "reliable under the worst field conditions" and "easy to maintain and service"?

So are Gripens, but when the money runs out in South Africa or Russia, it doesn't matter how easy it's supposed to be.
