STL takes direct hit from tornado

Post by Turbofan » Sat Apr 23, 2011 3:52 pm

St. Louis Lambert Airport was hit by a tornado last night. I saw the cell that produced it on radar, has a classic hook echo signature, with velocities showing strong rotation. Here are some damage photos.

Just from the damage photos I would say this would be an EF-2, but from some posts on JP.net the damage extended to the concourses and jetways as well. Also the fact that a shuttle van is hanging on the side of a parking garage means the tornado was pretty strong.

My general rant: I will call them blended winglets, not Sharklets; There is no CEO, it's just simply put, an Airbus 319/320/321, or the 320NEO, 321NEO etc. I didn't land IN DAL, I landed AT DAL. On the other hand, I did land in Dallas.

Not making fun but now would be a good time for upgrades seeing as it going to take a while to get back into full service.

What I hate is the fact that the people in charge typically wait until it is too late and a disaster strikes and then upgrade!

It has been rated an EF-4. That's a strong tornado.

Imagine if TWA or AA still had a hub there. Then it would be pure chaos.
