A plane with the same designation, the C-5 North Star:

This was basically a DC-4 with Rolls-Royce engines.

dood
you're supposed to continue the chain like in the TPBM thread
not say "oh its awesome" and shit like that and leave it hanging there

Anyway, continuing where Stingx left off,
The Tempest's German equivalent (somewhat) was the Focke Wulf FW190.

It gets even longer - Focke-Wulf Ta 152 - basically the most advanced model of the FW190 family.

The FMA IAe 33 Pulqui II
Image
This was a plane designed by Kurt Tank (same as above) and was heavily based on Kurts previous design, the Ta 183 which he built for the germans. This plane was built by the argentinians, hence the FMA (Fabrica Militar de Aviones)

An aircraft with a similar design (nose intake, high wings and T-tailed) was the Lavochkin La-15.

MiG-15

This was produced similar time to the La-15 and won over it, because although the La-15 was more advanced - the MiG-15 was easier to produce and maintain (Me-109 story over again).

Which preyed on the F-80 Shooting Stars of the USAF in the Korean War. The first jet-on-jet kill in history was made by a MiG-15 downing an unfortunate F-80.

The F-9F Panther
Image
While what is stated above maybe true, it is not admitted by the USAF. Around the same time, it is on record that a F-80 downed a MiG-15, which in turn is not admitted by the North Korean AF. But the first jet on jet kill accepted by both sides is when a F-9F shot down a MiG-15. This was also the first jet kill for the navy.

~flashback of putting F-11 after F-9 a few pages back~

*Oh no, here we go again...*

The F-9 was powered by a Pratt and Whitney J42, which is a variant of the Rolls-Royce Nene. The Nene was used to power a variety of aircraft, one of which was the Dassualt Ouragan.

How did the US get the Russians to hand over a MiG? Just how?

A Russian Pilot defected during the Korean war, and flew over with his MiG-15.

A MiG-17
Image
The first missile kill by a F-86 was against one of these. Before this, the Chinese MiG-17s where over flying the F-86s because the F-86s couldn't reach them, and so the MiG-17s where dictating the battle. But then the USAF where given a few AIM9s and they used them to engage the MiG-17s which when one was shot down, came down to get revenge. Well, mainly, the Americans got revenge... (with .50 cals)

It then met with the Vought F-8 Crusader in ol' V'nam. It was a worthy opponent for the MiG because it still retained maneuverability and guns despite being designed in the age where missiles were considered wonder weapons and the art of dogfighting has became obsolete, unlike it's competitor, the F-4 Phantom.

An attacker that bore a striking resemblance to the F-8 was the A-7.

F-14, used in the same era as the A-7 and F-8.
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.
