Vulcan XH558 confirmed for last flying season this year

Post by Doggeh1 » Fri May 15, 2015 9:47 pm

''This is going to be a spectacular summer for Vulcan XH558 but also a very emotional one; it is with considerable sadness that we have to confirm that we are about to enter the final flying season. After she has landed from her last flight this autumn, there will no longer be a flying Vulcan. We are therefore going to work especially hard to make summer 2015 a memorable flying season for every Vulcan enthusiast across the country. We intend to use every flying hour available, taking her to more people than ever before, celebrating other iconic British engineering achievements and saluting the heroes of Britain’s legendary V-Force in which she played a vital role during the knife-edge tension of the Cold War.''

Pretty sad day. Should be some great displays from it this year, especially RIAT and Waddington.

Vulcan XH558 confirmed for last flying season this year

I was talking with a coworker the other day about how ridiculous it is to fly a B-29 around privately (FiFi), and we got discussing the Vulcan. While this thing is like shoveling thousand dollar bills into the gas tank, I can see the organization using this press release as a scare tactic to get more donations.

It's not about money with the Vulcan at the moment. XH558 is 10% over the flying hours of any other Vulcan, and far over the recommended hours. Their three main engineer/mechanic suppliers pulled out as they are finding it increasingly difficult to supply people to the organisation. Most of the Vulcan ground staff and crew are Falklands veterans that have come out of retirement to see it fly again. I really wish the government would fund it though, as they do with the BoBMF because RAF warbirds are counted as UK heritage. Should be the same for the Vulcan.

Scare tactics or not, I really, REALLY hope that this isn't the last time we see this huge Cold War steel bird flying.

I need more recordings of the Vulcan "Howl", you know?

This is such a sad news :( . I hope that plane will fly on an airshow again some time. Or even maybe in weekends or holidays.
