Joe Sutter passes away

Post by Turbofan » Thu Sep 01, 2016 4:20 am

Rightfully known as the "Father of the 747" - he passed away yesterday. Quite the legacy he left (along with the "Incredibles") with an airplane that literally changed air travel. The 747 is hands-down my favourite airliner. I still remember the first time I stepped aboard one back when I was a kid - an Air India 747-200. I still get that same level of excitement when I walk into the large and airy cabin of the 747 even today. Mr. Sutter's name will always be tied to the awesome jet he designed and whose program he helped develop.

My general rant: I will call them blended winglets, not Sharklets; There is no CEO, it's just simply put, an Airbus 319/320/321, or the 320NEO, 321NEO etc. I didn't land IN DAL, I landed AT DAL. On the other hand, I did land in Dallas.

Heard about this but there doesn't appear to be any coverage on the news websites I read - first heard it off a friend, actually.
I haven't ridden in the 747 yet but I plan to at some point in the future - probably one of my favourite civil aircraft and especially so in the large passenger jet category.
There's certainly a large influence he left behind, though. May he be remembered.

I heard about this at the PMDG (PMDG Simulations) Page on facebook.
They say "Thanks, Joe". And the background a B744 with PMDG House Colors flying.
Rest in peace Joe.
