Easiest way to get ensure getting to Mun is to be sure you launch directly east, which puts you in the orbital plane of both Kerbin and Mun as well as the same direction of travel.

when your rocket shakes itself to pieces about 5 seconds after launch,

I call that excessive.

Anyway, where is your sense of adventure, going to the moon with almost nothing is the true Kerbal way!

EDIT: fault stops me saving it all properly often.
