That 1/3 is bigger than my capital city... Our state has a population of ~500,000 people and I reckon our population will be smaller than that city's.

Hong Kong is proudly home to 7.1 million people, and boasts the third most densely populated island in the world at 66,000 people per km^2. HK total is 4th most densely populated independent state in the world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... on_density.

In fact, Gimi and I live in a relatively sparsely populated region, so you get the feel of this place. However, most of HK is rugged mountains and open hills. (It boasts 2 nearly-kilometer high mountains, namely Lantau Peak and Tai Mo Shan (literally, "Big Hat Mountain").)

BTW Hong Kong is nearly twice Sydney's population and almost 20 times Canberra.
