Ok yeah, so we have some "interesting" weather today. Probably the 6th or 7th round of winter precipitation this winter so far, but for today's show, it is currently 12F, with snow and sleet, and thunder. Yep, we have thunderstorms overhead dumping heavy sleet with some snow mixed in (you know when it rains heavy but instead of liquid drops it's actually frozen ice pellets? That kind. Thundersneet anyone?). And vivid lightning. We've had so may rounds of winter precip this time that our bag of ice melt is nearly finished.

On the other hand, it makes for a great day to sit in my comfy chair and fly some 727s around :D.

So it is officially Spring again and the temperatures have been very nice here (highs from the upper 60s to low 80s; there were even some low 90s last week in SW OK). Of course this is also when we start getting into storm season. A system out west will start impacting the region beginning late tonight through Thursday afternoon. The possibility of storms is rather low but if any storm does develop, it will quickly become severe. Main threats are very large hail and gusty winds. It being Spring of course tornadoes cannot be entirely ruled out, but given how last May turned out we're hoping for a quiet season. We definitely won't complain about any rain though, it's pretty dry out there.

Hopefully storms stay away when I have to drive to college tomorrow, I have an exam too. I don't want to dodge tennis-ball size hail.

Spring finally came. The sun was out, temps were above 50F, and there were no clouds. All around a nice day.

Not a bad day today but a little cooler than seasonable, highs were in the low-mid 60s. Temps go into the 80s beginning tomorrow, should be a nice week. Severe weather is a possibility for us on Sunday. Then the cold air comes back with highs in the upper 40s on Monday. Welcome to spring time in the southern plains!

It was great today, 81 degrees with light winds. However it is Spring and in the plains that can mean severe weather as well, so tomorrow the first of potentially three rounds of severe weather is likely in the western panhandles of TX and OK. Thursday and Friday appear to be calm, then Saturday is one of those "definitely be alert" days as things could get rather bad. Hopefully this season will not be as bad as last, we could definitely use a break!

-- Sun Apr 27, 2014 8:44 am --

Just had a somewhat-broken line of storms move through with welcome rain and the usual thunder and lightning (speaking of which: GO THUNDER!!). Hopefully things dry out enough so the blowing dust expected later today doesn't create a mess on cars and other things outside. Expecting a high of 82F. Next weeek appears much cooler with below-average temps (highs in the 60s).

If you're in AR, MO or LA I would be weather-aware today, quite an outbreak expected:

In what appears to be a brief "aberration", we will have Summer for a few days. We're expecting a high temperature of 96F today, and continued hot like that for the next few days before a western trough approaches the area with a chance for rain and storms, especially on Thursday. Fire danger will unfortunately be very high because of the hot temps.

-- Fri Jun 06, 2014 2:12 pm --

Another weekend of rain and storms (bring it on!) and good timing because we need it. Much of the state is back in severe to extreme drought conditions (not to mention many western counties which are in the "Exceptional" category since about '08 or so). Currently 82F with a dewpoint of 68F, so yeah it's a bit sultry out there. We got a round of heavy rain and storms this morning with more expected the next few days.

Rainy days here on and off.
Many times today I saw strange occurrences (in my opinion) of horizontal lightning.

Currently 96 with a dewpoint of 71. Uh huh. On the other hand, it's a perfect day for a hot fudge sundae from Braum's! :D (A single dip is plenty for me though)

Currently a comfortable 79F, should be around 88F later this afternoon with a light south wind. Great bike riding weather. This summer's been great, broke 100F only once so far and 80s in August in the southern plains? Awesomesauce.

What are Oklahoma's peak months for summer heat? Even though summer starts June 21 the heat doesn't hit till mid August. Then it's immediately followed by the seasonal winds and cold fronts start migrating south. But by the looks of it, it seems that there will be no heat and there will be a really cold winter.

Then again New England has alaways been home to crazy weather.

We are actually in the middle of the hottest months of the year! That's what's pretty neat about this summer - we've been getting periodic rain/storm events throughout, everything is still lush and green. There've even been some days earlier this summer where we broke record low temps and had the "coolest" high temps for those days. That's not to say there haven't been triple-digit temps - we got some here in central OK and southwest OK has had several days with 100F or above, but this has been a cooler than normal summer (by cooler I mean 80s/90s for daytime highs) even for them since they've been getting good rain as well. They need it too, some cities are in danger of running out of water altogether.

Now that I've said that, 100s can still be possible well into September for us, and it is supposed to heat up later this week. Pretty unlikely this year though. It doesn't start getting cooler till the end of October or so, and our weather starts getting warmer in March, so we get about 6-7 months of "outdoor" weather.
