Suggestion: Vehicle Info Center

Post by NosferatuAce » Fri Apr 15, 2011 9:39 pm

Wasn't sure where this would go, so miscellaneous it is.
I was thinking that, one way to attract the attention of other people, besides addons and the usual stuff, was to have a specific part of the forum deticated to real life aircraft, tanks, vessels, etc. Each topic would have the first post be the name of a vehicle, any secondary name it goes by, a picture of the vehicle, and a description of its history. The rest of the posts would be edits, opinions, and any additional info. If you guys have been on electrosphere.info, then you know what I mean. Anyone find this unnecessary, then just do what you have to.

At first look it seems like a good idea.
At one time Ys was having a whole slew of ships, tanks and wheeled vihicles rolling of the line and it seems to have dried up.
Maybe this will give it a kick in the butt to get started again. :)

Part of the description could also include a list of addons that said vehicle is located in, that way people won't immediately start to request planes, they can just look up the aircraft and see where to download it....then again..thats what the addons search box on the side and the addons subforum are for...but newbies tend to miss it...
So what do you guys think? Go for it? Moderators would probably need to assign editors so that no one will go around messing up the info so that no "craptor", "farting falcon", "suck-hoi" or pictures of the vehicles in a dozen pieces show up, but it shouldn't be difficult.

It just sounds like a lot of work I dont think many folks are willing to put into the hobby just yet. We have google, just use that?

I must agree with kuro. A database like that would take a huge amount of work that is really unnecessary since most of it would be a compilation of things you can easily find on other sites that have already done this. Additionally it would also take a ridiculous amount of space on the forums.

Like I said, it was mearly a suggestion, and that if anyone says otherwise then thats fine.
I was actually thinking about the negatives of this after I posted, so i kinda figured that some people would be in favor but the majority wouldn't due to time, the amount of effort needed, etc.
Still, I think it would be a pretty neat thing to have.

But for the YS Combat section, information on certain planes would be good.

Mind you, that could be good for the "Which plane is better" (a start!).

plane dats are to the modder's discretion. One f-15 does not fly the same way as the next does, for example. It'd be hopeless, given the thousands of unique dats for ys.

I like the idea of users sharing their ideas. But, I'm not sure this is the best, I mean the forum is about YSFlight. If you make an add-on, then feel free to add real life information and history to the add-on release.

But for stock planes, and when a new plane is released.

Obviously for massive packs like TF58's, it would take forever.
