Currently in a downpour as the radar image from a cool software program depicts. Enjoying simple rain without damaging hail/tornadoes, in Spring time to boot! Can't ask for more.

Morning started windy cool and rainy, then turned into sunny, warm and moderately windy. Made me over-dress for my bike ride but I had enough hydration that it didn't matter much.

So I ran my WeatherStar 4000 Emulator and got a "Special Weather Statement", for a Flood Watch.

temp_CC_WS4000.png

Forecast calls for anywhere in the range of 3-5 inches of rain over a good portion of the state, with locally higher amounts. This is not necessarily a bad thing since many locations that are going to get rain are still in moderate drought but much of the ground is still wet from previous rains, and this system has a lot of moisture available for it. Much of the drought should be gone after this system passes through. Tomorrow though, there is also a chance for severe weather (surprise surprise), mainly in E and SE OK with hail and high winds being the main hazards.

The wet and stormy pattern continues this week. Currently pouring rain outside and 65F, even had some small hail with severe storms behind the cold front. Much larger hail was reported earlier today north of here, and ping-pong ball size hail fell just east of here in the past 30 minutes. Definitely thankful nothing too severe came through here. We get another round though Friday night into Saturday, with more heavy rain and possible severe weather. 'Tis the season!

So this morning at around 5:00 a.m. or so a small line of severe storms (one of several that trained over the metro) with an embedded rotating supercell (though elevated) went right over Oklahoma City about 20 miles north of where I am with 80-90+ mph winds. The embedded supercell produced extensive damage over a good portion of the southwest and central part of the city, with power lines down, entire, large trees uprooted, I-40 west was shut down because of power lines blocking all five lanes of the Crosstown and an arch at the State Fairgrounds that had stood for several decades got toppled and broke into two pieces, not to mention there was quite a bit of flooding in the north part of the city with all of the storms training. Meanwhile the two western-most counties in the panhandle of the state got about 6 inches of snow overnight.

Spring(?)time in the southern plains can get nutty.

We had a pretty good day all things considered, especially with the weather up north of I-40. Tennis to baseball size hail resulted in a knock-out punch on many car windshields especially at a university. Good weather returns for about four days but of course, it's May, so nutty weather appears to be returning next week.

Not too bad of a day here (actually, not bad at all), but very humid and warm as well. Highs were in the upper 70s today where I am. They got hit pretty hard out west though in the eastern TX panhandle and western OK where some tornadoes touched down and did damage (just SE of Elk City in W OK got hit pretty hard by what was a fairly strong tornado).

We are expecting storms overnight after 12:00a.m. so I'm sure I'll get another early wake-up call. Not expecting anything as severe as what western OK got but hail and wind are still concerns.

We've had great weather the last few days. Good enough for sitting under a shade tree. Today I took the opportunity to grab some meat and throw it on the grill. The problem is that the mosquitoes are out in full force, and that means I've donated a ton of blood to the little vampires. Storms are coming later this week and into the weekend.

I think the SPC Day 1 Outlook says it all:

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html

All the ingredients are in place for a classic, southern/central plains tornado outbreak, especially if multiple supercells remain discrete long enough. Not to mention baseball to softball sized hail with the most intense supercells. Right now, 77F with a soupy dewpoint of 67F.

Graduation here was in the school gym, and they finally installed some decent air conditioners a few years ago, so it was actually comfortable.

That's pretty close to the weather here according to this.

It's supposed to rain/storm this weekend with the highs staying in the 70s.

I wouldn't exactly say the threat of tornadoes and tennis ball size hail is "lucky"... just saying. :P But I do get your point.

At least after today's round of severe weather, we do finally get lucky, with temps in the low-mid 70s and pleasant weather for the weekend.

Currently 95F with a dewpoint of 69F, giving us a heat index of 100F. I like warm weather, but this does border on the not-so-fun stuff. Still, I'll take this any day over sitting in a cold house with no electricity (read: ice storm).
