Re: Weather In Your Area 2018
At least amounts are going to be light and tomorrow the high's in the mid-40s so whatever falls will melt. Next week: highs in the 80s. Early Spring in the Southern Plains!

Re: Weather In Your Area 2018
Pretty potent early-Spring system bringing all kinds of hazardous weather to the central U.S. today, from severe weather in the south to blizzard conditions in the northern plains. Unfortunately for western OK all it will bring is more wind, which is the last thing it needs after some pretty large fires yesterday (highs were at or above 100F in many locations for the first time this year). And no rain either.
Also, might be looking at a tornado outbreak in AR and perhaps further north later today:
SPC Day 1 Outlook
EDIT: [Meteorology-technical-alert]I looked at several forecast soundings for the moderate risk area, and pretty much all of them showed a strong veer-back-veer profile, which is not conducive to tornado formation. On the other hand, with a powerful, dynamic system like the one we have today, a lot more than just a VBV wind profile will be playing with any discrete supercell that can sustain itself long enough. Especially with the storm-relative helicity values being as high as they are today.[/Meteorology-technical-alert]

Re: Weather In Your Area 2018
Pretty warm for this time of year, and not surprisingly windy (it is Spring here after all), but out west, a dryline passed through earlier today and temps are in the upper 90s, with much stronger winds. Several fires are out of control, the largest of which re-ignited earlier today (it started late last week and had several hot spots). Rain is definitely needed and is in the forecast by the end of the week.

Re: Weather In Your Area 2018
The severe weather that had been advertised for this week arrived yesterday in NW OK and KS (KS actually had 3 or 4 confirmed tornadoes) and today a much larger area is in the risk zone including the metro. Currently watching the progress of some supercells out west, which will likely skip the metro but new cells are developing further south in TX which may be headed this way later. Definitely feels soupy, you can tell the increase in moisture outside.

May get some more storms, though no severe weather is expected. Sunny conditions prevail tomorrow with a high around 75F and light north winds. Perfect for my first bike ride of the season!
On a different note, here's what happens when a severe squall line is knocking on the door of a major hub airport:

Jeez, sounds scary mate. Hope all is well.Turbofan wrote: ↑Thu May 03, 2018 2:16 pmHad some hairy moments last night when a squall line moving through our area started producing quick spin-up type tornadoes in a moderately sheared environment. These are not usually the strong to violent type but still, not a fan of night-time tornadoes. We got some great rains in the overnight hours though with two more rounds of moderate to heavy rain, will definitely clear any remaining drought in our area.

Re: Weather In Your Area 2018
Hey thanks man! Yeah, all we got was heavy rain and some high winds, nothing that would cause damage though. There was damage elsewhere in our state but thankfully no injuries or anything.
This Spring has been unusually quiet till now, which is good (knock on wood). No complaints!

Re: Weather In Your Area 2018
For us that's pretty seasonal. Highs in the upper 80s today, even some low-mid 90s out west. A stormy pattern will persist through much of the next five days or so. Along with hail and high winds, you know, the usual stuff. Thankfully this season has been relatively very quiet as far as tornadoes go.

It will generally get hotter as the week progresses, but not too out of control. No complaints though, I'd generally take this over freezing my behind off any day.
