Fellow modders, I present to you a pack that we can create a lot faster and more hassle free than the main HQP, the HQP:GAC pack.
Now, the objective here is not about speed, but more about artistry and detail. The idea is not to rush, but to make something simple, easily, and beautiful for everyone to fly. Therefore, to speed up canvas creation, this pack will only focus on Birdfarm style aircraft. Everyone is welcome to join in - if you start an aircraft, simply create a thread for it here in the modding subforum and post your WIPs. This pack will allow newbies to get an all-in-one pack of aircraft to fly that doesn't lag servers and gives them a greater variety in their choice of aircraft. It also includes blanks so that aspiring squadron leaders and new painters can get in on the action quickly.
Birdfarm Style Guidelines:
- Birdfarm aircraft use Masa-AT's GAC pack style guidelines as a base. Because of this, you should use a GAC aircraft as a base whenever possible and build from there. Most Birdfarm blanks are heavy remodels of GAC aircraft.
- Birdfarm models REQUIRE a silhouette model of a cockpit, a transparent canopy, and pilots also matching the silhouetted cockpit.
- Birdfarm models REQUIRE a semi-high detail afterburner. While it doesn't need to be amazing, a simple 3 color gradient is the minimum.
- Birdfarm models REQUIRE lights of some kind.
- Current Birdfarm standard uses faux panel-line decals to represent control surfaces and any moving parts, as well as decals, insignia, and other ID marks.
- Feel free to go crazy! The more detail the better - but watch the file size. Any aircraft in excess of 350kb will not be considered for the pack.
HQP:GAC Pack Guidelines:
All aircraft included must have:
- Lights - CLA 30, 31, 32
- The Birdfarm standard - transparent cockpit, low-poly base, cockpit silhouette and pilot in the main DNM, high-quality afterburner and tail hook.
- Panel lines of some sort - the level of detail is up to you - even a few lines would be sufficient - but no more than just enough to simulate all moving surfaces of that aircraft.
- A blank of the aircraft - no unnecessary decals or details. Think of it as a "blank slate" for a painter. No camo cuts, nothing.
- A working inside cockpit DNM. Refer to the CVW-171 aircraft or current Birdfarm aircraft for reference.
Aircraft that are stock are the primary concern.
- Any variant of that particular aircraft is graciously accepted. The more, the better!
- The DAT will be the stock dat of that aircraft, unless it's a variant. If it's a variant, use that plane's stock DAT as a base and tweak it to reflect the performance changes in that variant - please research carefully. DATs will be checked by the modding team.
- Paint! Paint as much as you like - the more paints you submit, the better.

go ahead and roll the birdfarm packs into this. the community there has gone stale
They say that he feeds upon the tears of newbs, and that he spent an entire day feeding an effigy of Ricm into a desk fan. All we know is, he's called Animal.

What's the Birdfarm policy on propellers? Standard GAC practice is to provide regular solid prop blades without the highspeed transparent "shades".

BTW I'll take the F-104 (after I'm done with the Herc). You all know that's my turf.

A request:
I'm just starting modding, and trying to get blender scripts to work (linux issue), but when I'm done can I try my hand at a Kfir, and Mig 21?

Curious: why do they need panel lines? You can barely see them on real planes, anyway.

They're more like "control surface and gear bay lines" than a full set of panel lines anyways.

Try asking that question at an IPMS gathering. The plastic model scene has been pretty keen on the idea of painting the engraved panel lines on airplane models for at least the past quarter of a century, to the point that I think it's a silly obsession.

This isn't an IPMS gathering.

It's just a matter of style. The panel lines give the GAC birds the look of a high-quality addon without all the moving parts.

No, but we are modelers and I think that taking inspiration from the plastic modelers is a good thing...

F-14 Tomcat update: I went to go see a local tomcat, in part to nail down some of the details. Hopefully the new reference photos will help me with he detail kit. After that, I expect about a day in combining paints with the three variants, and some dat work concerning improved gear positions.
