I was wondering did you fall in love with a Skyray when you where a baby.
They will be great additions to the Ys communuty when you release them to us.

Re: What's he building in there..?
If you're referring to the A-64 then, yeah, there was a little bit of Skyray in there. Also a bit of Short Sherpa (all-moving wing tips). A lot of it was A-4 Skyhawk, small, simple, no afterburner even...Gunny wrote: I was wondering did you fall in love with a Skyray when you where a baby.

I'm merely pointing out to Grigor that a second seat for a FAC in the A-10 would be superb. We (the US) played with the idea for a long time.

How about the A-10 "Wombat"? [IMHO](or is that one already used elsewhere?)

That was not a nickname, it was the official British designation and it became the official US name for it!!!Crazypilot wrote:Instead of A-10 you can call it something cool like a nickname like mustang for P-51

Shorten the word Maccabre and add a different prefix and you arrive at a word remenicient of 'Super Sabre': SupraCabre. I haven't checked the entymology(?) to see if it would mean anything.

Re: What's he building in there..?
My questions :
-Will it use the new weapons and flare system. It would be dandy if you added those.
-Does it have functioning lights? *pressing 'i' to turn it on/off and shines in the dark*
Well i'm not pushing you though. Don't get me wrong. And yes, you have successfully made me jizzed in my pants.

Re: What's he building in there..?
- The wombat isn't that ugly.
- Maybe the animal name (if it has to be that) should be something more carnivorous / predatory than some bumbling (not to mention cute) vegetarian. Remember the official designation was Thunderbolt II. Given our love of things digital, I wouldn't rule out something cold and calculating like Thunderbolt 2.1. But that's kind of dull.
- I think the generals might squirm at the name "Death Angel", though it is kind of appropriate. All that goshdarn political correctness... maybe Dark Angel might get through, but even that doesn't quite sound completely right.
- Chupacabra? Isn't that also known as the Mexican Goat Sucker? Hmmm....
...And as for things like switchable lights and two-seater versions... feel free to modify and expand on this idea (so long as you give me credit for the original). I find building these planes a lot of hard work, since I do everything in Anim8or. It's especially hard creating those clean edges, having to export each component thus: Anim8or > export as 3ds, 3ds to Wings3d > export WRL, WRL to SRF, merge SRF files if need be, then SRF into DNM. Oh, the pain, the pain...
Personally I'd like to see fewer repaints and more New Stuff. Failed prototypes of the forties and fifties, like the Douglas Skyshark, the XB-42 Mixmaster, the XF-84 Thunderscreech or the XF-103 Thunderwarrior.
Now there's a name for a plane.

Re: What's he building in there..?
I keep going back to the old '57. Apart from the placement of the intakes it seems the most feasible shape. (It'd be better to have the engines and intakes above, to protect them from ground fire and foreign object ingestion, but the as it is shape has a nice flow to it.)
I'm working on a YF-57 / FA-57H version, just stretching the forward fuselage a tad; taking the asymetrical gun / missile launch tube from the -G model. This one will also include intake doors and ventral louvres to cope with gravel runways, and drooped wingtips for better ground-effect handling. The canopy has been given a few more polygons to smooth it out. The .dat file is about as good as it can get, now that the SMOKEGEN has been included to stop the instrument panel from flashing whenever you hit a ground target. (See post elsewhere)
More to follow.
