Scenery Editor Error

Post by Omni » Fri Nov 02, 2012 4:15 pm

So I decided to re-install the editor and mess around. After a little while I decided it was time to save... Error. Hmm so I undo a few things, try again... Error. So after some trial and error I realized it won't let me save more than just the base. I can only change the ground and sky color and default area. Anything else and I get this:

If anyone has a solution or a suggestion on how to fix this issue, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I don't know the exact reason what causes this, but it has something to do in and where you save your file. For example, I get the same message when I try saving it into my scenery folder in my YSFLIGHT.COM directory.

Try saving it to your desktop instead then moving it to where it needs to go. I don't know what the fix is for it, but this works besides being kind of a pain in the arse having to move it.

"There were errors" usually means something went awry in your .fld when you went to save it. Something got accidentally deleted like a polygon or a bunch of polygons, and I found out the hard way that it can also mean after you completed a hefty amount of work, your map got jacked and you basically have to start over again. My recommendation: keep a duplicate copy of your map in some other folder and add a "_backup" in its file name. Save it in the desktop folder or somewhere you can easily find it (not in the Main YSFlight folder though). That way, if something happens to the original .fld your working on, you can just go to the backup and resume the work where it got cut off.

No matter where I save it I get an error... The thing is that I get the error but it does "save" it... It makes the file but when I reopen it it crashes.

This is the complete FLD contents:

Code: Select all

FIELD
GND 0 0 215
SKY 23 106 189
DEFAREA NOAREA
It doesn't show the polygon I added.

EDIT

I just tried re-installing the editor but still have the problem.

Haha I literally just edit my post to say that.

Yeah, I just noticed that as well, so I deleted my post lol. Hmm, your computer doesn't like .fld's for some reason.Maybe the more expert minds here might have a better solution.

Run it with an Admin account.

I don't believe it is a computer issue because as of a few months ago I had the editor working just fine. I haven't douched my computer since before I got rid of it in the first place.

Okay, so I got it to work... I had to right-click > run as admin. Which doesn't make sense to me because it used to work fine without doing so. Oh well, at least its working... Thanks guys!

Like Omni said, it happened to me too. I was working in a map for hours, forgot to backup, then POOF! Nothing. Maybe the admin thing will work too.... Varren should ask Soji about this...

I'm sure Soji has more important things on his palette... This is obviously a user-specific problem. We figured it out enough to easily work around it, let him do his own thing.

This is precisely why no-ones emails to him get bloody answered...

There are a few people in the community who can get in contact with me urgently if you need - don't be afraid to ask. I just don't check here as frequently as I used to. Sorry!

Exactly what I mean... Maybe if people didn't spam his inbox with stupid questions like mine(which was easily answered without bothering him), he might answer some of the real questions that we do need his input for.
