Thank you so much! It's probably going to take a month or two to score it :P
I'm already 1/10th done with scoring the taxiway and airport area, and the runways still need some work. I'll have to fully design before putting down ground objects ;)

Niiiccceeeee!
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

YSB will now be sub-stationed now at Scott AFB. Gotta tear apart and rebuild Keawe AFB. I tested it and it was so small I barely had 110 Kts to takeoff on the runways

Looking forward to scoring the damn thing again :?

This is my first real attempt at painting. My goal is to create a HQP/GAC style fleet that represents the current 49th pack. I tried cloning the planes as much as my newb skills allowed. (with some extra's) So far:

Black Falcons

Iceman's awesome AFX-16

Once I learn a bit of camo I plan to attempt the Night Cobra's aircraft.

Vic, they look good. I remember we talked A LONG time ago about VFA-49th going BirdFarm GAC. what are you using to mod? If you're using blender then cutting camo is REALLLL easy. Esp on the BF models.

Thanks Dave and Vandal. Yes Blender. I've been watching Decaff's videos but I must be doing something wrong, always over complicates my vertices. Was going to try Iceman's tutorial, but I prefer Blender.

Hmm... I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean by over complicates your vertices. I mean, it will obviously add move vertices to your model. Since you're cutting your polygons up.
When it comes to camo I've always been of the policy that as long as the model keeps it's shape (which it normally does), I'm getting the look I'm looking for and the camo looks natural then I don't care too much how 'messy' the verticies look. For sure you wanna try and keep the camo to a level that it doesn't increase the vertice to a insane level. So simple camo should be fine, digital camo will not.

If you like, cut your camo how you normally do. Then shoot it over to me as a .Blend file and I'll take a peek and see if I understand what you mean more. Unless what I've said above helps to explain your issue better.

If you are going to send it over to me. I may not be able to look at it until the weekend or start of next week.

Probably the way I'm cutting using knife exact (need practice to get the shape I want). But that does help, thanks. I'm going for simple.

Also check the solid view mode to double check that your mesh has the right shading. If it does not, take a look at my shading turorial.

Thank you, I was getting shading issues all the time on non birdfarm aircraft. Will do.

I always try cutting from either side or top view. It will give you a mirror camo on each side or top/bottom depending how you cut it. If you want a non-mirrored camo, and not going from a wrap around camo I'd suggest cutting while looking down.

If I was to do this, to stop getting unwanted extra vertices on the belly I'd cut out the polygons that I wish to camo. to do this:
1: Select all the polygons you will to cut he camo. hold Shift while you're selecting.
2: Press P and this will make the selected polygons a new object.
3: Click on the new object and then go into edit more.
4: In the top view, select all the polygons and start cutting.
5: Once you've finished cutting you now want to join it back to the original body. In the object mode select the top half.
6: While holding Shift, select the bottom half and press Alt + J to join them.
7: Last but not least, in wireframe view. Go along the join of the two halves. you'll have overlapping vertices.
8: At each vertice select both the top and bottom vertice. Then press Alt + M and click at centre to merge them both. (If there are more than two vertices in the same position then join them all.) Be careful when merging vertices on the sharp edges (wings, flaps etc) other wise you'll get shadow issues.

If that doesn't scare you, then good luck. Who said modding was easy?
