Is it just me or is it up-side-down?

I always made each runway with lines and lights as its own scenery file so I could center it at 0,0,0 and do all the symmetrical parts of each runway easily, then moved each completed runway and rotated it onto the background image to do the taxi stuff.

No it's just the satellite image that's upside down.

As for the markings, well runway markings are easy. The taxiways will be a real pain when I get to them...

I just zoom in, take my ruler and measure the distances from the runway edge and/or the grid lines.

Yes. I'm making another version of Hawaii...sort of.

I'm making a "lighter" version of Hawaii[PMNV] that won't have as many gradiations and hopefully the ground won't be as buggy. I actually started with the start positions in place and am putting the airports in the exact locations as Hawaii[PMNV] so in theory people can simply replace that map with this one and hopefully have fewer problems with it. The actual airports are identical to the originals, I'm just importing them. What I'm making that is new is the actual ground polygons and elevation grids. So far Oahu and Kauai look good.

EDIT: No screenshots yet. Not really anything to show.

-- Tue Apr 29, 2014 7:18 pm --

UPDATE:
I actually added a couple of small air strips that weren't in Hawaii[PMNV].

Nice work Patrick, Cannot wait to fly on it when you finish it!

One of my major current project is to make a new simplified Canary Islands map based on suggestions from the previous version which has just hit over 1000 downloads on YSU. 8-)

The new version (currently a work in progress) looses some of the detail from the taxiway markings and signs, but makes up for it in other areas to give better frame rates and more fun flying.

Image
More detail such as urban centers, fields and roads have been added on the islands themselves to break up the colour.

Image
More ground objects (mainly stock) have been added to add another dimension to the map and make sight-seeing more fun!

Image
A view from above, showing the coastlines around the islands with inspiration from the excellent PMNV Hawaii map created by Patrick. Note, most of the islands to left are nearly finished and those to the right have not yet been completed.

Image
New runway and airport lighting added to make night flying possible.

Again, it currently is a work in progress, so it is nowhere near completion. But il update you again when the map is nearly completed.

Thanks,
~David

WOAH, that's amazing... Nice work!
I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

Revisiting the Tu-95 Bear. Got this created in a little under 24 hours. A day off certainly is nice.

That looks nice. One of the more interesting planes out there.

==========================

I replaced my Hawaii[PMNV] .fld with my new Hawaii map and opened Hazard's server. It worked well, and the ground objects are pretty well aligned.

Can anything be done to stop the ground color from showing through elevation grids at great distances? I wasn't going to put ground-colored polygons under the elevation grids to save resources, but now I think I need to anyway. :?

- I have Hawaii as the center of the map. All original Hawaii[PMNV] start positions are included, but I've added apron start positions to most or all of the airports.
- Project Rowe is there with most of its original start positions imported and moved the the correct places.
- Southern California is included, of course, with all of its original start positions in their proper places.
- I've still got to import the SOPA (Guam) map.
- The scaling is about 1/4 scale, but it is really impossible to determine the exact scale

The top left is Project Rowe, which is part of Gunny's Kodiak map that I made.

My concern with adding Kodiak is that the frame rates with the Kodiak map are similar to what I'm getting on this map without Kodiak and I'm worried that adding the extra weight would make it not work.

Nice job! I'm guessing that Lax is about 300nm from Hawaii....

But didn't you use the child sceneries tool? Shouldn't it help with the fps on especially large maps like megadodo?

The fps over water is fine, but around SoCal is awful. 8Fps! I'm going to get rid of it and do what I did with Hawaii. SoCal 2 is coming soon. :(

that a shame Patrick. I hope you can sort it out. Maybe you have to many ground objects or elevation grids.

part 2 of my typhoon. I only got 5 more to do.

I re-did SoCal to standards similar to how I've redone Hawaii. The result is slightly better frame rates. In HawaiitoSocal I get 8 fps at HNL. In my map I'm getting 14 fps. Someone with a decent video card is going to be fine, I think.

I switched over to the 2009 version to add Guam and SeaTac. It is 1400 KM from Guam to Honolulu, so about 860 miles. Another 711 miles from Honolulu to LA, 744 miles to Cold Bay, and 775 miles to Seatle. It's 286 miles from LA to Seatle. To put that all in perspective, it's about 325 miles from Hilo to Lihue. [edited with more-exact distances]
