Im currently working on a map for the 121st! Here it is!

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for my signature, I can tell you I don't have one. But what I do have are a very particular lack of skills, skills I have imagined having over a very long career. Skills that make me are completely useless in any situation. If you stop reading now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't stop reading, I will look for you, I will probably not find you, and I will kill your refrigerator.

Great start Alpha star. A few tips:
play around with the colour shades.
To do this click on the large colour box in the colour selection. And play around with the RGB settings etc.

The taxiways look rather fat.
Use the 'thick line' tool, change the thickness to around 20-30 and draw you taxiways. Then you'll add your Aprons (parking areas) to finish off the airport.

Looking better, some more tips:
The runway is too thick too.
Runways tend to be around 60m wide, the length is spot on but making them thinner may make them look more to scale.

The centre lines, not enough of them.
Try to get it so that they are around 30 long each. I also make mine about 1m thick.

Other runway markings.
The chevrons, (the yellow arrows) should be behind the 'threshold' lines (the white bar code type lines). You may also want to an aiming point (aka Fixed Distance Marks) these are what pilots (doing an instrument landing, and most common in YS) use to aim at when landing, in YS you tend to aim your velocity vector at that point. And finally, you'll want to add some 'Touch down zone markings' these show the safe zone for touch down. When you touch down in these zones you should have enough runway to stop (depending on speed).

The way I learnt to make perfect runways was using this tutorial:
http://forum.ysfhq.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=99
save that map and start a new one, follow that tutorial to the letter to make your first perfect runway. This Wiki artical should also help you to understand the different markings of a runway and other bits about them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runway#Runway_markings
There's also information about runway lighting etc etc.

After you've done your runway with the tutorial above you may wish to take it one step further with this tutorial:
http://forum.ysfhq.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=102

Along with a tutorial about taxi lines, I suggest method 2:
http://forum.ysfhq.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=103

Once you have made your perfect runway you can add it to your map. To do this you need to:
File -> Import -> Scenery -> press space -> click on file with runway

Then you'll want to move it:
Click on the runway (or any pink box), the pink box around it should light up and go thick. once it has done this go to:
Edit -> Move -> Current Scenery -> move to the general area -> press space to finalise.

You'll then want to rotate it, to do this:
Click on the runway(or any pink box), the pink box around it should light up and go thick. once it has done this go to:
Edit -> Rotate -> Current Scenery -> then you can either use the circle and pull the box around or use the new 'rotate window' and enter the desired angle -> press space to finalise.

Since you only moved the runway (or nay pink box) into a rough position you want to move it with greater accuracy. It's hard to do this with the 'move current scenery' method as you can't see where the different parts of the runway will end up. At this stage I like to use the move and rotate tools in the 'map' section.

You need to click on the runway, so that again the pink box that hold the runway is highlighted. You then need to press 'Esc' (this clears your selection). Because your runway is made from polygons you can select it poly by poly, to do this you need to hold 'Ctrl' and click on each 'element' (poylgon) this method is good when you want to move just a few elements of the map at a time.
If you want to move/rotate the entire runway (or pink box) you want to do this:
map -> Select All Elements
This will select all the elements within that pink box. From here you can do many things. When you have your elements selected (either just a few or all) you can:
Copy
Cut
Paste
Delete
Element Priority - move one element on top or under another
Centre
Move
Rotate

Just a note on the copy/cut/paste tool, when you paste element that you have copied they will be in the same position as the original element so you'll then need to click on 'Move' and move it to it's desired position. Remember ALWAYS PRESS SPACE TO FINALISE.

I hope this helps.

Oh and my main tip to anyone who first starts making maps. NEVER RELEASE YOUR FIRST MAP. I suggest you make a map, keep it for yourself and a few friends, then make another one, try to improve. You need to be able to look at your work, and think "I could have done that better" "If I change this is will look so much better". then when you have finished your second map, you do it again. then over the next month or two your skills will improve 10 fold.

I always think that a good runway with some realistic colours make a good map a great map.

There are people here who can help you. But as Iceman said, help comes to those who help themselves. Have a little read through the tutorials and if you can't find the solution come back to us.

Also, when you're looking for help try telling us the problem in more detail.
What are you using to edit? What file type is it saved as? You could even upload the problem model for someone to have a look at.
