[IMPROV] Moderate Traffic for London Heathrow

Post by Honey Badger »

[mod=London Heathrow Moderate Traffic]This is my first "add-on", if you will, for YS Flight. It is a nearly all stock replay will 790 seconds of moderate traffic at London Heathrow's Runway 27R and the occasional 22 lading and includes both day and night versions. By "nearly all stock", I meant that all the aircraft and maps are stock but the .stp is a custom one for this replay. Just be sure to turn off collisions for this to look right. You'll see why. At first, this will look like a hack, but a peek at the .stp will prove otherwise. I'll release a full pack of these "traffic replay" .stp files for most of the stock maps to go with future replays. Note that the video was taken before the .stp file edit and it ran for only about half of the replay. There is a about 50-60% more traffic now. Click the picture to download.

[instmod]HOW TO INSTALL MOD: Extract the files, the copy into wherever YS saves replays. In Windows 7, this is Documents>YSFLIGHT.COM>YSFLIGHT>. HOW TO USE: Start YS and click "Load Flight" then select "Heathrow_moderate_traffic" or "Heathrow_moderate_traffic_night". Click "Simulations" then "Select Player Airplane". Select the aircraft of your choice then the start position. Hit "Fly Now" and you're in buisness. It'll take around 3 minutes for the traffic to arrive at the airport.[/instmod][/mod]

I went to chase the Spitfires right when one started firing... got hit twice.

The landings are a little rough, I'd suggest a bit wider spacing between them. I think the standard difference is one minute or so between heavies. Maybe have some of them start at airports, that way you get takeoffs and slightly variated landing patterns.

Great idea though. Certainly makes civilian flight more interesting.

Yeah, I agree. I decree this to be BETA! More spacing, less spitfire/mustang shooting. The rough landing were in part because I was getting used to the weird flight characteristics of the stock aircraft (you see that first Concorde landing?). Quick question. What do you think of the .stp?

Neat stuff, but in the future I'd prefer if you didn't do any "click the image to download" stuff because it just messes up the bbcode. There's a set standard for a reason.

Okay, sorry. I've never done this before and the preview didn't look normal.

Huh, ok. I'll check the posting template, this is a new forum.

Haven't downloaded, but if the STP is for the "AI" planes, you can define spawn locations in the .ysf.

@halberdier25: Okay, JR. I totally forgot about that. However, is there any good way to tell where exactly you will spawn? Trial and error would get you there eventually, but it'd be a pain in the ass do 20-30 aircraft. Besides, I personally like the quickness of the modified .stps. It took me 30 minutes to edit 13 files. Some were left untouched because I highly doubt that they would have traffic (Slapstick; Ocean).

@Crazypilot: Sorry, crazy. I was trying to keep it to stock aircraft and there are hardly any "private" stock airframes. I do plan on asking different modders if I could use aircraft from a specific pack of their's. I just want to keep downloading and permissions needed to a minimum.

They would take a while to get there, at least to get to Heathrow. I'll try it and see.

Okay. I'll try that. I still like the idea of the .stp's (did I say that?) but the "embedded" coordinates, if you will, will work for those without the .stp's.
