[Aug 8] VNAF AirFest Fly-in

This is an announcement/heads-up:

Date: Saturday, August 8
Time: 1430 UTC
Location: Vuelo Beach
Teamspeak: HQ Teamspeak
Server: TBD

This year's VNAF AirFest will feature, for the first time, a fly-in/ATC event. This will take place at a TBD time on the Vuelo Island/s. As you know, the main island for the show has 2 airports: one small general aviation one, and one large. I will be producing information charts soon for this area as well as airspace designation and separation. I may also include other islands but this is only a possibility, I'm unsure whether I can do this in time for the event.

What to expect:
- There will be several levels of controllers so I'll need a couple of the YSATC folks for this. I may assign each controller a different airspace depending on skill and experience.
- Varying types of aircraft are possible to fly into the event area including high-performance aircraft, heavies, general aviation, commercial, and formations.
- There will be a division of airspace regarding the two airports which are within 5 miles of each other, as well as an aerobatic box that may be occasionally used during the fly-in. If this box becomes active (which will be decided by controllers), it will affect all airspace and traffic procedures. We will set up protocols for this situation.
- Many pilots may not be experienced with YSATC procedures, so we will publish special information for this unique event.
- I will not *require* prior filing of flight plans as many may be VFR or local flights.

I may not limit the controllers to YSATC folks but I will hand-select the best controllers out of whoever decides they want to do this. I may need 3-4 people for this, at least one with instrument flight knowledge would be nice. This will be a unique opportunity for everyone as this may be a period of high volume traffic and a great chance to hone your skills in ATC.

ATC Controllers:
VNAF ONE (Air Boss)
Turbofan
MD5Ray01
Dan (Standby)
Dave (Standby)

ATC Centers:
Vuelo Beach Tower
Vuelo Beach Approach
Vuelo Center
Pilot Uni-comm Frequency

VNAF AirFest Fly-in

Post by VNAF ONE » Fri Jul 10, 2015 5:18 am

The AirFest topic is up and available with more detailed information for the entire event. This will by my little hub for everything regarding the Fly-in since it's a week before everything else.

So I mentioned before that I will need controllers. Here's how this is really gonna go down. We'll have an hour or two for everyone to do normal flight ops. Then, the air show rehearsal will begin. With the orientation of the airport being so close to the air show box, this will be the challenge for you ATC junkies out there. Normally, there will be a flight restriction due to this, however the box will vary depending on who's using it, which may allow for the arrival and departure of some traffic. During the rehearsal, controllers and pilots will get to experience dealing with a changing airspace. Controllers can expect to communicate with an Air Boss (me) in order to keep things organized launching and recovering different performers and adjusting the air show box and traffic accordingly.

So, with that said, I'm excited about bringing ATC to aerobatics. I will need a 4 EXPERIENCED controllers for the following roles during the event.
- Vuelo Beach Ground
- Vuelo Beach Tower
- Vuelo Beach Approach/Departure
- Vuelo Center (will clear departures and handle multiple arrivals at other major airspace)

Any other airspace will be CTAF or uncontrolled and pilots will have a channel to broadcast their actions on.

Additional sceneries will be added to the map download so players can have places to fly to/from. As I get volunteers, I'll give you guys more info on what you'll need to be prepared for so we can have a great time!

By experienced, I mean at least know what phraseology to use and have done something like this before (YS or VATSIM) as a controller. The UK phrases aren't too far off but be prepared to clarify. I expect you'll be talking to 10 different countries with different phraseology so I'm not too concerned

I would like to signup. I dont have much experience on large airports or doing atc on YS (I did attend TFans atc school and did a small atc event) and I have little real life experience (Ive been working on GA airports calling over UNICOM on ground movements and listening to arrivals and departures making sure no one is gonna come in on us).

So like I said I have little experience but Id be a good candidate to place on the very bottom on the list. Dead last is perferred

I don't mean to make it sound like this ATC thing is gonna be the hardest thing in the world. I just want people who have an idea what it's about. If you've worked with TFan or done any ATC stuff in YS, you're good to go, just let me know if you'll be there.

From that point, I'll take care of you and make sure you have what you need to get going. The ATC thing isn't too serious. My only concern is don't let people fly into the aerobatic box during rehearsal, other than that, I don't mind what's going on. I just want this to be fun for everyone and something we've never actually tried before. It won't be much more than a walk in the park (well, maybe except whoever's VBC tower lol).

I may include other places but only as departure points to fly from. They will not be controlled. The only controlling place will be Vuelo.

So, do I have any controllers? If not, I may have to cancel the fly-in.

I will likely put out a call for more controllers and have the existing ones (Barracuz and Spektrum) get familiar with the Vuelo Beach procedures as soon as I get a clearer picture from VNAF (which I will today/tomorrow). I should have a better idea soon.

My general rant: I will call them blended winglets, not Sharklets; There is no CEO, it's just simply put, an Airbus 319/320/321, or the 320NEO, 321NEO etc. I didn't land IN DAL, I landed AT DAL. On the other hand, I did land in Dallas.
